Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace

I visited the location that our twenty-sixth president, Theodore Roosevelt was born and raised.  Theodore was born in this house on October 27, 1858 and lived in along with his family until 1972.  The house was built in 1848 and was demolished in 1916 and replicated to its current form in 1923 after the president died in 1919 to become a national historical site.  Other than the basics of the house I mainly just learned interesting facts about Theodore Roosevelt.  After his time living on 20th street, his family moved  uptown to fifty-seventh street.  The museum shows all of Theodore Roosevelt’s vast contributions to our country.  Some of these contributions I found out about are that he was awarded the medal of honor for leading a charge up Kettle Hill in the Battle of San Juan.  I also learned that Theodore Roosevelt was the youngest president our country has had as he became president at the age of 42.  Theodore Roosevelt was able to prevent a national emergency by fixing the 1902 coal strikes by increasing wages.  I also learned that Theodore Roosevelt did a great job in regulating business in our country as he was called the trustbuster.  At the time the rich people bought out all the small businesses in which to monopolize a certain item such as Rockefeller and oil.  Roosevelt made the Interstate Commerce Act in which to limit monopolies and create wealth for more people.  Roosevelt created many national parks as Bird Reserves and national forests as he was the first president to focus on conservation.  Theodore Roosevelt organized the construction of the Panama Canal.  This canal gave the ability to ships to be able to cut through Latin America rather than have to go all the way around South America saving lots of time for sailers.  These are just a few of Theodore Roosevelt’s many accomplishments I learned about that made the United States the way it is today.
