This Thursday, I attended an ALPFA Workshop. This was one of their many workshops that dealt with career development and success for the future. When we first arrived, we were greeted by smiling faces, and of course, the star of the show- pizza. During this first workshop, after everyone had eaten, we discussed the basics in writing a resume and how to use the skills we learned to make our resume look better and make it more effective and beneficial. A well written resume goes a really long way and is the first step in starting your career. As someone who has only written a resume to pass a class in high school, I was able to learn a lot from this workshop. It taught me what needed to be present on the resume to help me stand out in a large stack of them. At this workshop, the mentors also discussed basic leadership skills and how we can become better leaders, not only in Baruch, but in everyday life as well. They discussed the importance of networking and how we can use people that we know and meet to get ahead in life. I really enjoyed attending this workshop and I will most likely be attending future workshops done by ALPFA so that I can hopefully build my resume and acquire social skills that will prepare me for the years beyond college.
