After going to the Writing Center, i feel more confidence about my English time by time. In this Workshop, I learned how to control an argument with topic sentence. The topic sentence often stay on the first sentence or last sentence. The topic sentence always affect the article in multiple ways. For example, it can start an argument or explain a research or study. Throughout my time in this group, I really love how everything helps me which contribute to a better me. By hearing other people’s opinion, I feel that my view has been stretched. I can think an problem in different ways. Overall, I am really thankful for the Baruch Community.

Workshop With SACC Tutoring Center
My very first workshop during my first semester at Baruch College was a Math Workshop. I am currently taking Pre-Calculus and Elements of Calculus, and felt as if i wasn’t completely comfortable with the material, so I made an appointment for a workshop. I knew the material but I just wasn’t ready to apply it for my upcoming quiz and found this as a perfect opportunity to get a taste of what SACC is all about. I really love the fact that other than one on one tutoring, SACC offers these workshops which include larger groups of students rather than just 2-3 students. This helped for review of a large variety of topics and didn’t put me on the spot for not having direct questions to ask. It was a more broad review of what we had done from the beginning of the course, and sure enough I got a 100 on my quiz the following Monday. My tutor was extremely understanding, helpful, and assisted me in any question I had regarding the topics. We went over exactly what I was unsure about and I actually also saw some new faces and made some friends. I definitely benefited in more than one way. Since this workshop, I have actually gone back and had tutoring with same tutor as I found that I understand him well and he is of great help when it comes to my tests/quizzes. I would definitely recommend the workshops and am actually signing up for one again this week to help prepare for my math midterm! 🙂
Creative Writing Group
Every Tuesday afternoon, I attend the creative writing peer review workshop. This workshop runs for four weeks in March and today will be the last meeting. The workshop is not a typical event where you sit down and hear a staff member talk. This workshop is group oriented and we basically edit each other’s work. The group that I meet with is comprised of two students and a writing center staff, who acts as the moderator. While the group members take turn commenting on the essays, the staff member will offer her suggestions and comment on another student’s input. Throughout my time in this group, I really enjoy hearing other people’s point of view on the essays . I feel that it will help in the long run when others read the essay because they will understand it better. Another thing that I liked was the fact that the group didn’t necessarily have to submit a fictional piece to be edited, the members can add whatever work they want reviewed. Below is an example of one my assignments that has been edited. This group helped me make some new friends and improve my essays.
Math Tutoring
The tutoring center was actually my first Baruch activity this Spring. I had been struggling with Calculus a lot, so I felt the need to visit a tutor for more help. Instead of walking in, I had made an online appointment for the tutoring session as many people had advised me to. The reservation process was super easy and convenient because it shows you the tutors’ names and their empty slots that you can take. After reserving my spot, I got a confirmation and a reminder email, which was pretty nice, knowing that I often forget appointments. When I entered the tutoring center, the environment was super quiet and ideal to work in. There were so many other students taking advantage of the center, so I also got motivated! My tutor was very patient and understanding, and even after my session, the center receptionist informed me that I am allowed to take more time with another tutor since there were empty spots(sadly, I politely declined). I think everybody should definitely visit if they haven’t so, and I will also be visiting more often. 🙂
