As the name suggests, these are videos that are not flat images but a 360 capture of the scene. Imagine a sphere that surrounds you and you can look around (up, down, behind you) through a virtual video.

Youtube actually hosts a bunch of free 360 videos that you can find and view for free.

To experience these videos in full VR, you need to be wearing a VR headset. With Google Cardboard you can use a modern smartphone to view these videos. No headset? No problem! You can still use your phone or a computer to view these 360 videos and pan around in all directions. It is not a fully immersive VR experience, but a much more engaging experience when compared to traditional videos.
