Revenge & Jacobean Style.

After long process of thoughts I came up with a show I recently watched on Netflix called Revenge This show can somewhat considered a modern day Jacobbean drama even though it’s not as violence but it is still filled with violence corruption, betrayal, revenge, and incest which are characteristics of a Jacobean drama. Revenge is a show about retribution. Meet Emily, the newest resident of The Hamptons. When she was a little girl (and known as Amanda Clarke) her father, David Clarke, was framed for a horrific crime and subsequently sent to prison. While serving his time, the conspirators plotted and murdered David in order to prevent the truth from coming out. Emily is now back with a new identity and ready to take vengeance on the people that murdered her father and stole her childhood. Emily’s friend, Nolan Ross, is there to aid Emily in her plans. Emily’s childhood friend, Jack Porter, Emily want to keep him out of harm’s way. Nothing will stop Emily’s pursuit of justice and no one is off limits.

Drinking Alone with moon / Mr. lonely

I will compare the poem “Drinking Alone with the moon” with the song “Lonely” by Akon. I am sure most of us have heard the song before. The song is about a guy who lost his girlfriend and is now going through the breakup phase.  Even though they both have different issues but they both brings forth the idea of loneliness. In my opinion they both try to escape the reality in somewhat similar ways. In the Poem “Drinking Alone with the moon” Li Bo said “I drink alone, no friends with me” and in the song Akon sings “I’m Mr. lonely I have nobody”. I believe we all have different ways to deal with loneliness, it could be either by drinking or by simply boycotting with our family/friends as Akon does in the video. Loneliness can be felt even when surrounded by other people, it usually includes anxious feeling and lack of connectedness and communality with the beings and that’s what I see in both the poem “Drinking Alone with Moon” and in the song “Mr. Lonely”.

Awaia.liaqat

Hello, my name is Awaia Liaqat but you can call me Awais. I am a junior at Baruch majoring in accounting and i plan on taking my CPA right after my bachelors. I dont read a lot of books but one of my favorite books is “Drown” by Junot Diaz.

About Jay’s text

“This turn, of course, has been a controversial on. my aim in this book is to explore the nature and history of these controversies. As some scholars define globalization as a contemporary phenomenon linked to the development of electronic media, the rise of translation corporations, global financial institutions, and proliferating form of entertainment that easily leap national boundaries, others define it as a historical phenomenon running back to at least the sixteenth century and incorporating the histories of colonization, decolonization, and post colonialism.”

I found this quote very confusing because of the words that author uses and i believe “globalization” as exchange of idea, culture, goods and more.
