I chose this article published recently by the Nonprofit Quarterly (NPQ) as a valuable resource because it touches upon a stakeholder’s influence within a non-profit organization and how there should be a stakeholder analysis process to check on interests and sources of power. Stakeholder resistance takes place when individuals, particularly stakeholders, are the “outsiders” of an organization and are engaging in acts that challenge, disrupt, and change organizational practices or the overall mission of a non-profit. Stakeholder resistance presents challenges for non-profits and can reflect negatively on the organization as a whole. This article mentions the fact that we are also currently in the “social media age” where communication tools leave a non-profit very vulnerable to negativity being spread rapidly. Non-profits need to use their time and effort to shape their organization as they would like and continue to grow the mission, while at the same time being engaged with those stakeholders that are willing to support.
