Lesson 2: Shared Resource

Hi All,

We’ve spent the last two classes talking about how, generally, the tax-exempt status the government gives non-profits, as well as the ability for Americans to donate their incomes, provides a greater benefit that allows non-profits to grow out based on what society believes is important.

In piece I noted below, it appears that “over half (52 percent) of more than 100 diverse nonprofit leaders reported apprehension regarding the ability to raise resources.” It’s been primarily due to decreases in funding at the state and federal levels.

I found it fascinating that in spite of the freedoms awarded to non-profits by the federal government, non-profits are still so reliant on it to maintain their funding — even if the continuously expanding economy provides individuals the opportunity to donate.
