In the TED Talk by Simon Sinek he says “The goal is not just to sell to people who need what you have; the goal is to sell to people who believe what you believe.”
Inspiration is key and inspiration is required to bring the mission to life for each stakeholder audience. Inspiration and connection can come in different ways, including building personal relationships, social-media and online presence, and programs that demonstrate the organization’s mission and goals. However, as discussed in Lofty Missions, Down-to-Earth Plans, the nonprofit needs to attract new donors and be ‘marketable’. The mission statement serves as an inspiration and a connection to constituents and donors. There is also an operational mission which is what the organization actually does, its traceable. How they are solving the problem and what their role is in doing so. There is also strategy and choice of programs involved in how the organization accomplishes it. Programs help stakeholders get involved and know what the nonprofit is doing to advance their mission.
