Reflective Log: Final Essay

This final paper allowed for more freedom, but with freedom comes responsibility. There were so many chances for the paper to get too cliched or too “simple” and you had to make sure it didn’t. I had trouble thinking of a topic to write about that I both enjoyed and one that wasn’t cliched. I was very happy to come across the poem Sci-Fi by Tracey K. Smith because it knocked out the two criteria I was trying to fulfill. Because of the big interest I have in my topic, I think my essay is going pretty well; I need to make a couple of edits here and there with the transitions and content.

For the video essay, I am planning on doing a flash animation. The concept that I am working with is hard to film, so that’s why I decided to go with flash animation. I’ve never done it before (and don’t know how to as of now, but I will try to learn) and I am not artistically inclined but I can’t wait to get started on it. Even if my artwork cannot compare to Picasso, I still like to draw. I hope everything goes well with the video essay portion of the assignment!

After breaking my poem apart like I should have the first time I found my self with some what an argument still don’t think its very strong. I can work my way around it and back up my thesis with some quotes. I honestly though I was going to kick ass with the paper, since I truly love my poet. But as of right now it has not been what I expected. My first rough draft was horrible it was more of a research paper than a poem analysis. I didn’t exactly put any emotion to my first draft.

Still working on a thesis, hardest paper I have had to do in college. I will work through and find a perfect argument to rise. As the digital part of this essay, it goes perfect with the entire idea. That is the only thing I must say I am looking forward is shooting my little movie. I like the entire point of my small video also.

Reflective Blog

The revisions I am making to my essay seems to be working out very well, but I’m still confused on when to use the sources to show how it supports my thesis and how it is connected. I found it easy to cite my poem, it is mostly visual, since you can just describe what the poem looks like instead of making complex citaiton to reference your poem from the Electronic Literature Works.

The most concerning topic in my essay has to be my thesis. Also I’m uneasy with the structure because I want to show that a blank page is not just a boring and tormenting page for you to write, but a tool for you to have fun writing your opininon, ideas and your view about the world. Instead of painfully writing your essay you should enjoy writing with your own creativity and to avoid boredom itself. So I’m hoping my essay flows and links to each other that the reader can understand what I’m trying to say clearly.

The final stretch

I’m trying something new with this paper, not sure how it will turn out yet, but I don’t think that is a bad thing. I really like the reading that I got from the individual conferences. I don’t know how to use the “The Poem as Functional Object” yet, but I really liked the cutup reading, I might experiment with that.

I need to analyze my poem a lot more, I’ve been drifting away from it, makes me want to switch poems, but it’s too late for that.

Final Essay

I feel very confident about my final essay. I feel I raised a credible argument from Eileen Myles’ “Kids Show: 1991”. Finding a source for my research was harder that I anticipated. I found a source from the NY Times’ blog that I believe will suffice. With this essay being at least 5 pages in length, this essay obviously required more effort and time than the other ones and I feel that this is my best one yet. I analyzed the poem while including my sources and arguing my point.

The writing groups we had in class helped me a lot. Hearing feedback from my peers, whether it was positive or negative, allowed me to revise my essay with ease. My meeting with Professor Kaufman helped me as well. I gained an understanding of what I need to do in order to write a great essay.

Final essay

My rough draft of my essay was a great start, but going to my individual conference with professor gave me things in my paper I needed to fix. My paper lacked strong analysis. Although I made strong points the arguement was flawed with a lack of analysis. I was also one of the ones who did not understand that the poem had to be refrenced throughout the essay. So now I am going through and applying the poem to all my arguemnts.

I am still struggling on finding real good sources. Professor pointed me in the direction of finding sources about the actual poet. This I think will be great not only for my paper but to better understand the poem. The lenghth of my essay was a little short in the rough draft only being

Reflective Writing Log

After we had the in class writing groups and we looked at each other’s paper, I found that it is really important to find something that you are really interested in to do this paper.  My peers read my paper and their comments helped me a lot because I was able to know if other people get my ideas after they read my paper. Also, I found that I have a lot of grammatical errors. I used the advices that they gave me to revise my paper.

The concerns that I have about this paper so far is that I am not sure if my idea is clear enough and if I used enough quotes to support my idea. Another problem that I have is that I don’t know if I connect my idea to the poem enough. When I started revising, I read the whole paper first. I found that I need more quotes from the poem to connect to my idea because I just used one quote from the poem in my rough draft. Besides, the paragraph that talks about my own experience was way too long, so I need to break them up into few paragraphs.

I feel bothconfident andnervous about the paper. On one hand I received some positive feedback, but on the other hand I feel like I haven’t fully developed what I want to say. After working on the organization I think its better. I feel fortunate  that I found a reliable and informative source. It saved me a lot of time so instead of researching Iaspect more time working on the paper.

I haven’t began the digital project but I have navigataero round prezi and it look like the ideal tool.

Edit: last night i tried tried to start the project and I feel concerned about using copyright material. I think at the end I will have scrolling credits of every link where I borrowed the images for my collage.

Reflective Writing Log

Writing the final paper has been a fairly smooth process for me so far. However, I am struggling with the research aspect of the assignment. I’m having a really tough time finding appropriate sources and deciphering how they apply to my essay. I found a few good resources on jstor, but they are kind of outdated and might not be the best ones to use. Do our sources have to be recently published, or is it okay if they are about ten years old?

Another issue I’m having is that my poem is from the Electronic Literature Collection. Some of my poem’s content isn’t textual (it’s visual). As a result, I’m having difficulty articulating parts of my poem using words, because the poet doesn’t use words in the first place. Lastly, I am having problems with length–my essay is now 4.5 pages, so I need to make it longer–however, there’s only so much you can write about one poem. However, I think I will eventually overcome these obstacles–and hopefully my essay will turn out just fine.
