Assignment: Analytical Paragraph
Lazarillio de Thomas is a hero of the old Spin days. He has no choice but trying to survive. He is one of the victims of feudalism and unjust system of old Spin who learned to survive. He is that unlucky kid who was born in the mill grain, lost his father and given away to an old blind man saying “look after yourself” (12). This can be metaphor for that era that everyone should look after him/herself. There are situations that he is not only looking after himself but looking after his master and feeding him through begging. He is that bad luck kid who goes from bad to worst all his childhood and nearly experience the grave life in earth’s surface. He sees the house which he life as a grave and says:
“Oh, master,” said I, “come here and assist me, for they are bringing a dead body here! I met them in the street above, and I heard the widow of the dead man crying out, ‘Alas! Husband and master, whither do they take you? To the dark and dismal house; — to the house of misery and misfortune; — to the house where they neither eat nor drink.’ To what other house then can they be bringing him than this?” Directly my master heard these words, albeit in no merry humor, he burst out into such a fit of laughing, that it was some time before he could utter a word.’ (69)
Here, Lazarillio describes the situation he life is a great fit for a grave where there is dark, no body to talk, there is nothing to eat and drink. Many time he mentioned that he was in the border between life and death and he was not able to stand. Despite all the situation arisen which Lazarillo has been thought that everyone should look after him/herself and he experienced earth and grave life in earth, yet he was helping others when needed which makes him a good fit for a hero.
