We can see many dichotomies in the first book of Genesis: heavens and the earth, water and land, light and darkness, day and night, and good and evil. These dichotomies tell us that the universe is made of two parts, and that there is a balance between them. However, the dichotomy of good and evil has not existed until a certain point; before God had created the living creatures, the “evil” was not present in the universe, since there was no sin at the time.
