After looking at all the tweets with #gottotalking, we realized most of the tweets deal with the lack of education within each characters. But we came to a conclusion that it’s more than just the lack of education; instead the form of dialect that each character expresses themselves makes each of them unique. The use of idioms such as “Dogs my cats ef I didm’ hear…” (pg. 35) shows how different Jim is from other characters even though they all lack education.
Jim expresses his feelings different from Huck, Tom Sawyer, Huck’s father and other characters. And this is how we should starting looking at the dialects from the characters. It shows more than them lacking education but how each characters wants to express their feelings; see the uniqueness in each character.
If each character spoke in the same way, the novel would be completely different. The way they speak makes them who they are and it allows the reader to distinguish each of them. The differentiating grammar between the characters enhances the quality and humor of this novel.
