Journal #10, Ryan

The Adventure of Huckleberry and Finn is one of the few books I read that I enjoyed reading. There were many parts of the story that I like about, but my favorite part is when Huck tried to steal the money back from the king and duke for Mary Jane and the Wilks family.

After the king and duke conning the sisters of the Wilks family, Huck was having a supper with the sisters. While talking to Mary Jane, and realize how nice these people are to them, Huck feels terrible about letting such sweet women getting con and resolves to get them their money back.

In this scene, Huck feels terrible about what they have done to the Wilks family, and the feeling of guilt finally hit him, so he pledged to steal the money back for them. Throughout the story, Huck and Jim’s raft adventure has always been a sign innocent boyish fun. Huck conning Jim and people to entertain himself and to escape boredom shows indication on how immature Huck is. It was good to see Huck finally compensated his mistakes in this scene, and retrieve the money back for the Wilks family.
