Tamar-Kali, who?

I’m pretty open to music. I’d like to think I have a very diverse taste in music, however, damn. When I first heard Tamar-Kali’s “Pearl Remix,” I had to fight the urge to put my hands over my ears. The video itself was interesting, following the lives of women going about their daily lives before they all end up at the same party. The beat was hard to follow and all over the place, and even Tamar-Kali’s voice didn’t make up for the lack of harmony in the song. Then I was really confused when some random chick started randomly rapping and bumpin’ along to the music. I really tried to focus on the lyrics, but spent most of the music video trying to contain my laughter. Sorry Tamar-Kali, I’m not impressed.

Bass Overpowers Pearl

The bass pumping beat and screeching guitars of Tamar Kali’s “Pearl” remix featuring Jean Grae features strong and powerful vocals to a danceable beat. What the songs is about, however, I couldn’t tell you. Tamar Kali’s evocative voice sounds great, but the beat is too strong to make out any of the lyrics. Jean Grae’s unfortunately brief appearance on the song made me want to hear more of her quick-spitting lines.

Pearl remix leaves viewers flustered.

Tamar Kali’s Pearl (remix), is one of loud confusion. Literally. Kali’s loud voice combined with unknown lyrics only leaves one to rely on the video for understanding. What seems like a quest to find freedom and true beauty in women through “naturalness” and a collection of body piercing, it is still a work left up in the air in meaning. Different, maybe. Trying too hard, more likely.

Beats, Base & A Touch of Rhythm

The song “Pearl” had an interesting and unique twist with its melodic beat and bass. The singer, Tamar-kali has a powerful voice that carries even higher then the bass in the background. Very catchy, to the point where feet may even tap on the floor in unison to the instrumental beat, bumping loudly.

Radiohead Fails to Reach its Viewers

Radiohead’s single “Lotus Flower” off of their most recent album “King of Limbs” is a mellow, soft sounding track with a catchy beat that leaves viewers humming the tune for hours. Unfortunately, the presentation and dragged out introduction leaves audiences confused and bored, as Lotus Flower is unable to get the recognition it deserves.

Eccentric Delivery

This video expressed the visual elements of the artist and his love for the song. Many people dance to music but this person was jamming to the song. he had his own rhythm. he was filed with excitement, and the song seemed to only heighten his enthusiasm. The song was strong, with a very loud tempo followed by powerful drum tones. The backdrop of the Radiohead video, was still and eccentric. The song and beat was catchy and the perfect sounds to listen to when running on the treadmill. Radiohead is a headliner and their song is justified.

Such An Odd Flower

The visual Lotus Flower blooms modern awkwardness as Radiohead’s lead vocalist Thomas Yorke attempts to echo Christopher Walken’s epic solo performance in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice music video by way of comical moments. To boot, the song’s alternativeness of sounds fits, in an ironic manner, into place with the video’s out-of-place direction.

Art is a loose term.

Good art creates a reaction, and Radiohead definitely achieves that through their new music video for “Lotus Flower.” The song is composed of skittish drumming and a mystical harmony that lures the listener into a trance. Add that to Thom Yorke’s eccentric dancing, which could only be described as “trippin’ on balls dancing,” we cannot look away. The only thing I can say is, “it’s art?”

New Radiohead single is a lost dream.

Lotus Flower represents the mindset of a legendary rock-n-roll band: spacey, modernistic, delusional,  and at the same time free. From their new album The King of Limbs, Radiohead’s new single feels like a stoner’s dream, sounding as if it is flowing through cloud nine, attempting to touch the base of Heaven. The song is soft, hypnotic, and the video only adds to the feeling of a loss of conscience in reality and the feeling of being diverged into a dream.

Lotus Flower Boogie

After listening to King of Limbs, Radioheads newest  album masterpiece, one of my favorite songs off of the album was Lotus Flower. The music video for the song is certainly unexpected, for it is the lead singer in a bowler hat, white collared shirt and skinny gray jeans dancing in a sporadic yet rhythmic matter to this once seen as slow and mellow song. The mad dancing counteracts with the slow and meaningful tune to most certainly leave the viewer confused. I personally enjoyed it and thought it added to the spontaneity and yet deep meaningfulness that is Radiohead.
