Technology

We are going to be relying on a number of different technologies (in addition to Blogs@Baruch) to facilitate our work this semester.  Read through the descriptions of each platform, and where appropriate,  follow my instructions for setting up access to each of them.  Reach out to me or to one of your peers if you encounter any difficulties.

  • Slack – We will be using Slack, a group messaging platform, as a way to communicate informally with one another.  Imagine Slack a giant group chat for members of this class.  You can also use chat to send direct messages to a particular classmate or to work with a few classmates on a group project .  Use this link to join our Slack “channel”.
  • Turnitin.com –  You will be submitting your essays for this class via turnitin.com.  In order to use this platform, you will need to enroll in our course on turnitin.com’s website.  To do this, first create an account for yourself on turnitin.com using your Baruch email address.   Then you can enroll in our course using the following information:Class ID: 25922784Enrollment Key: democracy

Don’t wait until the last minute to take care of this!

  • Zoom – We will be using Zoom as our tele-conferencing medium.  You can access Zoom from any computer, tablet, or phone that has a microphone.   For classes to be most fruitful, we will all join our zoom calls using both audio and video.  In cases where this is not possible, you will need to email me to explain your situation.  During our schedule class time on Mondays (12:30 – 2:05), we will use Zoom for one on one conferences, group meetings, and drop-in office hours.  On Wednesdays  we will meet at 12:25 for a mandatory class session.  Use the following link to access our calls: https://baruch.zoom.us/j/98962054422

  • Google Docs – Although your formal essays will be submitted to me via turnitin.com, we will also be suing Google Docs on occasion for more informal assignments and for collaborative work.  You will need a google account in order to create and share files via Google Docs.
