About Me – Steven Ma

Hi, my name is Steven and I am a freshman here at Baruch College majoring in Accounting. To be honest, as I was deciding on what to major in I did not do any research or have gotten any advice when I was picking out my major. Anyway, I ended up being in Baruch and I’m grateful for that, thank you, God. Although I am not a religious person (I used to believe in Buddhism but as I was getting older I wasn’t practicing it as much anymore) and do not believe in God, I am just used to saying the terms “God” (like Oh My God) and I hope it doesn’t offend anyone else that has a religious belief in God. Moving on, I am CHINESE, I was born and raised in China. I took school in China (barely finished first grade) and then I Immigrated to America. Thinking back I really enjoyed the times when I was in China and everything was so chill and always had late-night shows going on down the street. I never missed a beating though and besides the mosquitoes that always hunt me down at night. I came to America when I was 7, and gosh I did not know any English everything was new to me. Learning English was a big struggle for me when I first came to America and the experience… I would rather not say.

Foods, yes I love food, but I am a picky eater and I hate many foods. My tastebuds were always sensitive to the food that I disliked, I hate cilantro, no celery, no lamb, no meat intestines, and weird body parts of animals. You might think I’m done but I want to tell you that I do not enjoy eating seafood at all, yep. I am allergic to shellfish but fish is fine for me. There was one time when my mom cooked lamb and had me eat it, lied to me saying it was beef, and asked how it tasted, what happened was the second it went in my mouth was the second it came out my mouth into the garbage can. As some of you might say, “You don’t like lamb!? It’s so good!”, sorry no. No matter how you make the lamb and how good it is, it is not for me. Now that all the negative things have been said regarding my opinions on food, time for the good stuff. I am a huge meat lover and I wish I could have chicken, steak, or pork in every meal that I have except breakfast. I love my greens (thank you, besides cilantro and celery though), and I LOVE durian. That’ll be all for me, thank you!

This was the mountain I used to hike every day with my grandpa to start our mornings off, we would always get to the top of the mountain to rest and then go home all sweaty. This is a famous mountain in Fuzhou Fujian called Gu Shan Mountain and I lived right below it. There were also tramways for the people.

About Me (Kevin Xu)

My name is Kevin Xu, and I am currently a freshman at Baruch college and majoring in Finance. I am born here and was raised in China, Fujian. Growing up in China I was always fascinated about food and video games. One of the foods I loved eating growing up is these fried dough with red beans inside. My grandparent would always buy these in the morning on my way to school with soybean milk to drink. Video games is an activity that all kids love to do back than and I wasn’t an exception. Now I am still the same but have expand my palate for food and new hobbies. Now I enjoy playing volleyball and built computers. I been playing volleyball for about two years now and I played for my high school team in varsity. Foodwise, depending on my goals, I would eat certain foods. During my volleyball season, my diet was based on lean proteins and bunch of greens and rice. There is always bunch of salmon in my fridge because my uncle would bring them to me every single month. Now since I am not playing for any team, I just eat whatever I want. Steak is one of the foods I would definitely eat every day. I wasn’t really into steak until one of my friends cooked it in a certain way. He cooks where the steak is pink and juicy while the outside of the steak is very crispy and crunchy. Ever since I hadn’t think twice about asking him to make me a steak. I always enjoy crunch food. It so fun to eat like chips, fried chicken whatever that crispy. I like my chicken triple coated and refried it until it extremely crunchy. It is very unhealthy, but it is my comfort food. Overall, I am a very easy-going person and the main thing I want is to make a lot of connections in college and make a lot of friends.

Premium Steak Collection - Christensen Ranch

This is one of my comfort foods and my main source of protein. The steak looks delicious and dazzling. If I can only choose one food to eat for an entire year, I would’ve chosen steak.

About Me

By Jeff Lliguichuzhca

Hi, my name is Jeff Lliguichuzhca. I am a first-year student at Baruch in my spring second semester. My major is finance, with a minor in computer science and real estate (unsure). Who am I? I am the youngest child in the family, having mixed parents, my dad being Hispanic and my mom being Chinese. One thing I love about myself as a person is giving a helping hand to people in need. My pronouns are him or her. I would like everyone to address me by my first name, Jeff. The photo I chose meant a lot to me because that was my first ever professional picture at Baruch College during the summer. During the summer, seeking allowed me to communicate with many different peers, building the connection needed for the future and growing from others’ experiences. My experiences with Eng 2100 were unexpected because of how the professor set the classroom environment so enjoyable, making it very engaging and encouraging students to speak up and share their points of view. Now in English 2150, I would think it would be hard since the class number went up by 50. me thinking it would be difficult until I met the professor. I came to realize I was wrong. In fact, I believe the course will be simple because the main topic is food. I love food, and food is important for us to live and be healthy. I set a goal in that class that I didn’t achieve in my precious Eng 2100: to do my best in all subjects, aim for a higher grade than an A, and most importantly, be a college-level writer and understand topics. The question that piqued my interest the most is: What is my favorite food? I don’t have a favorite food; I am more of an eat anything type of person, but one thing about me is that I love to enjoy different cultural foods.
