“(GREECE, Chíos) A young girl charges a mobile phone at the former first reception center near to the port of Chios, where refugees and migrants who managed to leave the VIAL detention center a few days ago are camping out on April 4, 2016. Greece sent a first wave of migrants back to Turkey on April 4 under an EU deal that has faced heavy criticism from rights groups. Under the agreement, designed to halt the main influx which comes from Turkey, all “irregular migrants” arriving since March 20 face being sent back, although the deal calls for each case to be examined individually.”
I chose this picture because it shows how cruel Europe is going about this whole idea of deporting refugees back to where they came from. Everyone leaves for specific reasons and its sad that something like this is taking place in 2016.
Literary Analysis
For my literary analysis paper, I will be choosing to do Prompt #3. It is true that we come to understand ourselves through our relationships with people. This is what took place between Dina and Heidi’s relationship. They are both loners who built a friendship based on their personalities and orientation. In my literary analysis I am going to state the similarities between Dina and Heidi which brought them close.

- Satrapi left the second time to gain her freedom in another country. Why didn’t her parents come along with her to gain their freedom as well?
- Women in Iran usually wore a scarf, a dress and trousers while the men wore anything. After a certain point the women had to start wearing longer scarfs and bigger trousers because the men were still being able to perceive what they had on. Whose fault is this?
- Even after gaining her freedom, why was Satrapi so miserable?
Brainstorming Ideas for Personal Narrative (Essay #1)
IDEA #1 – (Using Prompt 1) FIRST SEMESTER AT BARUCH COLLEGE – I remember feeling displaced when I first started at Baruch college. The whole transition from high school to college was difficult, mindset wise. I had to get use to a whole new surrounding, new people, new tasks, the work load, etc.
IDEA #2 – (Using Prompt 4) DIFFERENT “LANGUAGES” I SPEAK – I speak what you might call as slang English when I am around my friends and I speak a broken down African English when I speak with my mother.
IDEA #3 – (Using Prompt 3) MY NATIVE COUNTRY (GUINEA) – This place means a lot to me because I was born there. Even though I spent all my childhood and most of my lifetime in America, the few times I would visit flush back so much memories. Starting from the food to certain smells that held memories once it was inhale.
