- What was a moment in Rankine’s excerpt that moved or struck you, and why? Quote from the excerpt and support your response with evidence from the text. “the anger built up through experience and the quotidian struggles against dehumanization every brown or black person lives simply because of skin color. This other kind of anger in time can prevent, rather than sponsor, the production of anything except loneliness”. This quote is struck me as it mentions anger’s differentiations.
- Identify two moments in Rankine’s excerpt where she applies lenses you recognize from Blankenship, Graves, and Eickmyer’s list on 102-105. Quote from the excerpt and explain how these lenses serve Rankine’s argument? “the anger built up through experience and the quotidian struggles against dehumanization every brown or black person lives simply because of skin color. This other kind of anger in time can prevent, rather than sponsor, the production of anything except loneliness”. This movement I think an example of Ethos as it emotionally described two types of anger with dehumanization. Another moment is “Recognition of this lack might break you apart. Or recognition might illuminate the erasure the attempted erasure triggers” This is pathos since it shows how his emotional situation under a pressure situation.
- Responding to Graves, Corcoran, and Blankenship, describe a specific moment when you communicated effectively and persuasively without using words. One specific moment is while I play soccer, I communicate without using words. For example I and my teammate’s use our own signals to communicate so that the opponent can’t easily get it.

The quote you bring up as an example is very strong. Probably the most impactful from the whole text. ????????⁎ᵕᴗᵕ⁎)
I agree with your description of ethos and pathos. The author’s tonality in her writing makes it clear that Rankine couldn’t believe what was happening which essentially put her in a state of shock, anger and frustration. Due to the author’s word choices, it allows the reader to experience the same feelings that the author felt.
You should describe more what type of signals you and your partner use while playing soccer. It gives others a better sense and image of what you do while communicating this way.
I agree with you on this. The author used emotions to get us to relate with them and see the same POV as them while they were describing the game.
I agree how you stated that the use of emotions was a strong part of the author getting this text through to his audience.
