ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

James Koloniaris Week 8 Reading Responses

  1. I think Coates feels that even though he enjoyed the movie very much, he wanted to see the story tie in the real issues of the time into the story. For example, he mentions a scene where the two main characters are at the lincoln memorial. During that time in real life, there was a commemoration for the 100th anniversary of the emancipation proclamation where only one African American speaker was allowed. Here in this scene the two are just playing chess in front of the memorial. Coates believes that major things left out of certain things in the real world shouldn’t be left out so the next generation can learn.
  2. A form of repetition found in Parkin’s analysis of No Man’s Sky is the continuous mentioning of exploration. This is important to the analysis because it ties in with the whole purpose of the game which is to explore as much as you can. The strand and contrast found in this analysis are that the developers of the game lead you on with the fact that the game is infinite with infinite worlds to explore with no repetition, but the game may leave you feeling alone and lost. These points of the analysis inform the reader of what comes with playing the game. They also tell show the reader how it may make you end up feeling once playing it. The anomaly of the whole thing is the factor in the game itself that you can be alone in your own galaxy with worlds unique to your game. This is the reason why many people still play this game due to this being a major selling point.
