Bored
When I started college I was really enthusiastic and excited to be here but day after day that excitement has dwindled. I wake up everyday and go to school knowing Im going to be bored and hoping something that day will keep me from keeling over in my desk. College went form a new adventure to a daily challenge not to drool or bang you head to hard on the desk when you dose off. Im hoping it will at least get less boring. I cant say Its all bad because there are those one or two days where I find a reason to stay awake and find something interesting to do. It might just be me but Im scared I might have to spend the next four years learning how cope with boredum rather than learning and becoming a well rounded person and all that junk i hear Im “supposed” to do.

BRO, Can you Spot The Difference?
So, did you find the differences? Well I sure didn’t and I have no intentions of doing so. This is what life has become: the exact same thing with a small differences tossed in there that I care not to even notice. This semester hasn’t done much for me. I drag myself out of bed in the morning to get to school, attend school, waste time after school, go to sleep. For some reason I didn’t think things would end up like this, never did I have hopes, but regardless this situation escalates through its own mediocrity.
The guy second from the right, his scarf thing changes color: orange to purple. I guess there is a difference in the picture. Look at anything long enough and you’ll spot something is off, I’m sure. Looking at this semester I spot that the only difference is that the future looks a lot bleaker then it ever had before. The tints and hues on my picture are getting darker and it’ll take a lot more then some cheesy effect to get it back on track. Maybe some photoshop will get it where it needs to be. My photoshop skills leave something to be desired but, in time, I’m sure I’d be up to the task.

For me, this year has been much like the picture describes, clockwork. Day in and day out, this lower freshman year has been somewhat like high school. Days are generally very repetitive, where I tend to stare at the clock waiting for some classes to be over. The day is somewhat similar to high school in some regards, but the main difference is how the teachers operate. This is still something that I haven’t completely gotten used as I think many of us can understand from music class.
One of the many things that I have enjoyed during this semester was the breaks in between classes; they remove the cramming of classes into a tight schedule. One of main things that I do during the breaks is playing ball in the gym. I generally have a routine for the week and it had basically remained similar throughout the semester, much like clockwork.
Unfortunately, another thing that has carried over from high school is procrastination. I generally wait for the last second, if not just the last day to finish my work. This has been going on for the longest time and still occurs right now. This trend happened throughout the semester, where I lose sleep and end up rushing the job.
Just like clockwork.

The past three months that I have spent at Baruch have been very unexpected and different from any other experience I have had in the past. I never really had a good relationship with school. In high school, I always dreaded going to class everyday and hated doing all the work school required me to complete at home. But my experiences at Baruch are nothing like the experiences I had in high school. It’s almost like I traveled to a different universe or realm. Therefore, I used a picture of Dorothy and Toto in Oz from the “Wizard of Oz” because I feel it encompasses the past three months I have spent at Baruch. When I compare the professors, the students, and the environment at Baruch to that of my old high school it is similar to comparing Oz to Kansas. Even though I still do not enjoy waking up early, I like school more now than I ever have. Of course, Baruch has its flaws but when I compare it to my old high school I cannot complain. It has been a long time since I actually enjoyed learning. I especially feel like Dorothy because I do not live at home anymore. Sometimes I miss my Kansas but, unlike Dorothy, I think I will stay in the Land of Oz.

After 4 years of high school, I have become extremely used to waiting until the last day to do all my work. I was able to do this because all my teachers would remind the class the day before an assignment is due. Now that college has started, procrastination isn’t going to work anymore. With the use of a syllabus, it’s not the professor’s responsibility anymore to remind students to do their work. After my first few weeks of college, I realized that I kept on missing homework assignments because I forgot that I even had homework for the class. Since I have to keep track of so many assignments, I need a calendar/planner to keep up with what I have to do. My calendar is constantly on my mind because I’m always stressing about what kind of work I have to be worried about next. Without my calendar, it wouldn’t be possible for me to remember all my assignments and due dates. It is now a big part of my education. My first impression on Baruch is that I have to do everything on my own from now on. No one is going to be guiding me through all my classes and make sure I’m passing my classes.

resources at baruch
Baruch has a lot of different resources located on campus that are available to every student, such as Starr Career Center and Sacc Tutoring Center. The one that I found the most helpful is the Writing Center on 8th floor. Tutors in the Center help with writing papers and improve student’s writing skills. Every tutor has, at least, Masters degree in English or Journalism and some even have Doctorate degrees. It’s always a good idea to schedule an appointment at the Center as early as possible because sometimes, especially during finals week, it becomes impossible to find any available spots. It’s a great resource that everyone should definitely visit sometime during their time at Baruch.

Better late posting than never posting?
Have you ever contemplated the existence of someone what looks just like you but is evil?
Have you ever thought about the gravity that holds you to the Earth?
Have you ever wondered if your life is actually a TV show that is being broadcasted throughout the world? How awesome would that be?! And I don’t mean one of those lame ass TV shows on NBC that last all of one season before they are cancelled, I’m talking a phenomenal show that gets its deserved six seasons and a movie (and if you understand that reference we should totally hang out).
Sometimes this idea occurs to me as I’m walking through the subway and I take a bow. I seriously hope this confuses everyone who’s watching and makes them ask themselves if I actually do know it’s a show. But if your life is a TV show than what channel would it air on and what would be the premise? Honestly if my life is a show I hope it’s not constantly playing reruns that annoy viewers. If I could choose I wish it could air on Animal Planet, not because it contains many animals but because the narrations on those shows are amazing. Morgan Freeman, Morgan Freeman could narrate it! Oh no, no, no!!! Samuel L Jackson! You know what?! Forget both Morgan Freeman and Samuel L Jackson, Ron Howard! He narratored Arrested Development and that would be plain awesome! By the way that show is coming back and it is going to be the best thing since the second coming of Christ.
Though the narration could also prove rather annoying, so A&E. I would have the show formatted like Intervention, not because I’m addicted to anything but because the captions in between my actions could prove to be useful and interesting, a lesser annoyance than narrations. But who doesn’t become a little upset when watching Intervention? My show wouldn’t be depressing.
I would love to say Nickelodeon or cartoon network and tune in every Saturday morning to watch yet again another problem my cartoon self can get into! In cartoons your character can do anything and with sound effects it is really quite amusing. But my real life is not a cartoon, obviously, so I fail to see how my life could be accurately expressed… life as a cartoon sounds amazing now that I think about it…
My TV is usually isolated to comedy central and while I wish I could occupy the same wave frequency of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, I find I am not nearly witty enough and nor do I want to share the same air as Daniel Tosh.
History channel? One word: aliens.
PBS I find to be very informative and helpful, I am neither and I wish not to be. (Anyone remember the Arthur theme?! LOVE IT!)
But where does this leave me? Most likely I would end up on MTV, not in one of those shitty reality TV shows and God do I hate Jersey Shore, but more like one of those shows about awkward teenagers, I hate those too but that’s my life. Also, I’d be on a station with Amir Blumenfeld and honestly that’s all I need out of life. I love him. No seriously, he’s my idol.
Anyway, that’s all I have to say so tune in next time, same fro time, same fro place.

Brooklyn
I really liked the book “Brooklyn”. After meeting Colm Toibin I can say that i like it even more since now I know the fascinating story was true even if partially. I liked how casually and interesting the author spoke to us. It didn’t feel like a meting with the famous person at all, more like a casual conversation. The fact that he wrote a book about an imaginary story about his mother made me laugh. He has a descent imagination.
It was a great event.
