The music I have chosen may not lyrically tell someone who I am, but it does gives the listener a feel of the type of person I am. I have many different loves of music. Growing up I was mostly exposed to Rock N’ Roll but as I grew older my repertoire of music expanded. I began to get into Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap, and the eventual phase of techno. Music lets me express myself in ways my own words cannot. Even the songs that do not have lyrics speak to me through beats. Music makes me feel alive.
Hey Mama: Saying I have an obsession with Kanye West’s music would be an understatement. Many hate him as an individual and therefore discriminate against his music. Although his actions may be controversial his music deserves recognition for its genius. To put my feelings towards Kanye and his music into words, “As a man I am flawed, but my music is perfect”- Kanye West
99 Problems: Who better to represent the type of future I strive for then Shawn Corey Carter A.K.A Jay Z. Jay Z grew up with virtually nothing and worked hard to become one of the biggest players in the music industry. Jay Z shows me with enough hard work and perseverance anything can be done.
Up Up & Away: This song can cheer me up no matter what mood I’m in. Kid Cud’s music promoted a carefree life filled with partying. His music represented the crazy life a teenager had and the life I loved to live.
This Plane: Once Kid Cudi stopped smoking and fell off the music industry’s radar I began to love Wiz Khalifa. “This Plane” was the song that really got me into Wiz. Whether its listning to his music on my Ipod or seeing him in person, he never lets me down.
Song for an Actress: Hoodie Allen is a white Jewish rapper from long island… nough said.
Reason: The NERVO twins kill it again with the song “Reason”. This song is the transition from Rap to House music in my blog. As much as I love going to rap concerts, nothing compares to the rush I get from going to a rave.
House Music: The title of this song says it all. It’s house music and one of my favorite mixes. It’s fairly simple and the beat really gets me pumped up. Seeing him live two weeks ago was one of the craziest nights I’ve ever had. You know you had a good night when you get home at 7AM.
Cinema- This remix to Benny Benassi’s “Cinema” displays how techno can incorporate both a soothing song and the harsh beats of dubstep, and turn it into an amazing mix.
Boyfriend (Dada Life Remix): Because lets be real… we all secretly like Justin Bieber’s music.
Last Night: This song perfectly illustrates the thoughts that go through my mind every Sunday morning.
