My favorite enrichment workshop was the academic advisement workshop.  I think this is the most important workshop because it helped me to understand how to register for classes and gave us advice on what classes we should take next semester.  If it weren’t for this workshop, I would have to find all the information on my own.

Favorite workshop

Favorite workshop was the Baruch voices the first time not the second time. The second time we saw the performance it was really hard to hear the performers over Brandon’s tears so it was pretty tough to pay attention to but I got through it. The first performance was really good though, it was really funny and the different voices the actors/performers put to each and every different monologue just seemed to fit. What little i did hear of the second performance was some really overly dramatic sad stuff while the first one was more light hearted. The museum was a close second it was pretty cool viewing a different culture than my own. You can easily forget  how incredibly diverse this world is when you only see a select few people from a select few places on a daily basis. It really opens your eyes to the world.

Experience so far

The work so far for my first semester in Baruch is how i expected it would be. I do have to work on my time management though i have to write 15 pages of paper by monday and this being late and all. Studying for finals week is going to be tough for me i’ve never really studied before I never had to. My picture is of a clock while being a little melodramatic is pretty much the bane of my existence I’m constantly running behind schedule but aren’t pretty much all college students like this irresponsible unresponsive or just flat out lazy. Im pretty sure eventually I will as they say “grow up” but until then I guess i’ll have to just beg for extensions or for latenesses to be waived

BTW please don’t be offended by me saying freshman seminar was a waste of time. I don’t blame you guys for making me go to a completely pointless class at 9:30 in the morning. I hope i didn’t come off as rude in class today

Baruch Voices

Throughout Freshmen Seminar, we were given the opportunity to attend numerous different workshops. My favorite workshop that I attended is Baruch voices. At first I thought this would be another workshop that I would not bother to listen to, but I actually paid some attention to this.

One of the monologues that caught my interest was the one about the girl wanting to move out. It caught my interest because I had always considered moving out so watching someone in a similar situation was amusing to watch. The monologue was also especially performed well, along with the other performances.

Another performance that I enjoyed was the one about the Asian guy smoking cigarettes. I enjoyed this performance because I also smoke cigarettes so I can relate to what he was saying. The actor who performed this did it well and the audience reacted positively because it was also funny.

Baruch voices made me realize that all college students have problems and things to stress about. Many students can relate to all the different situations the actors presented. By far, Baruch Voice’s is probably one of the best workshops Baruch students could attend.

Freshman Seminar was a good class in my opinion. I liked my mentor and instructor, and they were both very kind and lenient. I liked the laidback feel of the class, and how we never really had to do work. I also enjoyed some of the field trips. For instance, the trip to the Rubin Museum of Art was a really cool experience. In addition, some of the workshops were extremely helpful like the one on how to set up your classes. This class helped me get fully acclimated to Baruch, and showed me the important things I need to know to succeed in this school. Some of the things that I didn’t like was how the class started at 9:30. I have to commute from New Jersey so I had to wake up at 6:30 to make it to class on time which was very difficult for me to do. Also, the blog posts were kind of tedious, but they weren’t that bad. All in all, I liked this class and thought it was a great class to start my career at Baruch with. Thanks Ying and Brett for being great mentors, and maybe we’ll meet each other in the future!!

My favorite enrichment workshop was the Rubin Museum. It was so interesting to see the background of other religions and what they preach. The art was beautiful and always held a message behind it that was religious. The main reasons I found this museum interesting is firstly, because I enjoy learning about other cultures and religions, and secondly, it made me realize that in the end all the religions preach the same things which are love and peace. A Baruch student took as on a short tour and presented the art to us and the history behind it- I learned about Buddhism and the cornerstones of the religion. We were introduced to the figure of Buddha and how he became the base of Buddhism. I found the story very interesting: He was a prince that had never been out of the palace’s gates to see how the world is around him. One day, he went to the outside world and realized the massive poverty and sadness that was in the world so he decided to no longer be a prince, and dedicate his life to humbleness.  I also was surprised that the art at the museum started as a private collection of somebody that gave it to them for the public to see; we saw the room where Buddhists pray and it had that feeling of absolute serenity surrounding it.  Additionally, seeing the process of how the Buddhist statues are made was amazing as every step was presented by what the statues looked like at each stage and it was very interesting.

My Freshmen Year

Freshmen Year:

My first semester at Baruch College was somewhat challenging. I entered the college thinking to myself how much of a breeze it would be and how I would be getting straight A’s. Of course at first class’s were pretty easy and I was doing quite well until I started to slack off. I will admit that it is entirely not my fault, but I could have done more to better improve my grades.

Other than the grades of first semester, I decided to pledge for Alpha Phi Delta. Pledging has been the most difficult activity I had ever done in my life. Throughout pledging I learned my limits and went through a lot of stuff that I did not think I could do. I learned to manage my time better and be more organized. Although pledging has been very difficult and pushed me to my limit, I have no regrets on doing it. If i had the chance to go back in time to change whether or not I pledged, I wouldn’t change it at all.

Although first semester did go by very fast, I made sure I made the most of it. My goal before entering college was to have as much fun as I could while maintaining high grades. Even though I did mess up on the second part, I know I can change up work habits and fix it up. I’m going to end my semester by studying hard and acing all of my finals (hopefully).

I feel that I enrichment work shops were somewhat helpful. I did not go to Voices and I am unable to discuss and have a creditable opinion on it. I wish I had gone to it but I had my registration date for classes while is was playing so I was unable to go to it. Truthfully I attended the other enrichment work shops but I didn’t pay attention and my mind wasn’t there. It is hard for me to clearly reflect and talk about any of the meetings.

Baruch Alex

My first semester at Baruch was interesting to say the least.  In the beginning I hated it because I had no friends, and it was just lonely.  Now I feel a little better that i made new friends, and they’re pretty cool people.  I didn’t think i was gonna find friends who were similar to me, but I did.  this picture is a picture of my new car.  I lost my car in hurricane sandy and i got a new one.  It is pretty damn awesome, i love it.  It’s fast as hell.  It doesn’t really have anything to do with baruch, but yeah uh it happened during this semester so why not post a picture of it!  i love cars and i love my new car.  i hope one day to maybe get a job working on cars, not a mechanic though, because they do not make a comfortable amount of money.  I hope to either be a cop, dea agent, client officer, or someone who works with cars.  Ken block is the man, maybe i can be like him some day, if you don’t know who he is, maybe you should look him up, because he really is the man!

So I really thought that the museum was pretty interesting but I just didn’t really understand what was in it. I understand that it was mainly about budah and things like that I but I don’t get the point of the museum. What is it there to show and teach me? A lot od the things there were really cool and interesting, like the lady with a lot of arms that had a weapon in each hand but who is she, I just don’t knw these things. And what is her significance to me? These are the things that I don’t understand and would like to understand. I know this was suppose to be a blog about what we learnt in he museum but I am going to ask about what I didn’t learn in the museum. That doesn’t mean that it was not taught it just means that I didn’t learn this. But something that I did learn was that a lady had a hole collection of statues and still has a lot in her home but not enough room in her home, so she donated\leant the museum part of her collection and all  know is that it is suppose to be very peaceful and people are able to go there and think when ever they would like, and people actually do that after a stressful  week or things like that. That is what I learnt about in this museum.
