Hi everyone! I’m Iris and I am an Asian American who grew up in a mostly Jewish suburban neighborhood. I’m a daughter of two loving parents, a sister, a friend, and a girlfriend. I am a little spoiled at times but I’m quite lovable when you get to know me. 🙂 Most people think I’m the stereotypical quiet Asian girl when they first meet me, but after getting to know me I’m nothing like how I appear to be.

I haven’t decided what I want to major in but probably something in finance or marketing. I have big dreams but sometimes they only feel like dreams. I’m concerned that I wont know how to accomplish my goals at Baruch and end up completely lost in life. I also want to be active in the school and join a lot of clubs but I worry that I wont be able to balance schoolwork and other activities.

This past month has been a completely new experience for me. Living on my own in the EHS dorms and having to take a subway to get to school are some things I never thought I’d do. I am suddenly given a lot of responsibility and I think I’m handling it very well. I feel mature and grown up living independently from my parents and because of that I am taking school more seriously too. I don’t slack off as much as I did in high school. And I can manage to do so much more in a day than I did before. Being on my own has made me a much more productive person and it’s such a great feeling!

My first year of college is already starting out wonderfully! One of the main reasons I chose to study at Baruch was because it’s located in the city. The city always fascinates me; it’s beautiful all year round. I can’t wait for the leaves to start falling and for the holiday season to come! 😀

I made this playlist on YouTube of songs that describe me :))

Playlist: (press play all)

1. Iris – Goo Goo Dolls (For the obvious reason that it’s named Iris and also because when I was younger I could relate to this song. I felt very much like an outcast when I was younger in school and felt that no one understood me)

2. By Chance (You and I) – JRA (This is me and my boyfriend’s song <3 He’s a big part of my life and so I thought he deserves to be on this list.)

3. Courageous – Casting Crowns (I’m a Christian and God is a big part of my life. This song gives me strength to do the things I’m too afraid to try. It reminds me that I don’t have to be afraid of the world.)

4. I’m not a girl, not yet a woman – Britney Spears (I’m at a stage in my life where I’m learning to become an adult but at times I feel the pressure of the future pressing down on me and I’m not sure if I’m ready for it.)

5. Clumsy – Fergie (I’m just a clumsy girl >,<; I tend to trip over my own feet and embarrase myself a lot)

6. This Love – Big Bang (For a period of my life I was really into K pop and this was my favorite song from then. Yes its a remake of the song this love by maroon five)

7. Thanks For the Memories – Fall Out Boys (This was one of my favorite songs from my middle school days and it reminds me of my friends back home who made my life a thrill.)

8. Make it mine – Jason Mraz (This is a very inspiring song that always motivates me to do my work. And I love Jason Mraz’s music 😛 )

9. River Flows in You – Yiruma (This was my lullaby every night when I was younger)

10.  Drop The World – Lil Wayne ft Eminem (These are my two favorite hip hop artists. My personality is contradicting at times. I love music from all different ends of the spectrum. From classical to hip hop to rock.)

Hi my name is Joel Verghese, Im 18 years old and im an undergrad freshman here in Baruch. I have not decided for a major as of yet but I have been thinking of doing one of the science majors, Although Physics might be a good major to take just kidding. But really my desire lies in the science courses just in case you want to talk me out of it. I went to school overseas to india, thats where i got my highschool diploma and funny thing about that was all my classes were actually AP classes so basicly i went to hell five times a day and my teachers have that sort of effect on students that causes them to do their max, know what it means ‘Lots and Lots of homework’. But in any case i learned a lot from them. All my friends were basicly indian but thats fine with me. India turned out to be a real experience for me. It taught me that life is a shithole and everywhere you go it smells so it is one of the fundamentals of life. After it was all said and done, my parents brought me back and this was exactly a time o needed to choose a college but my dad is like NO, you’re going to Baruch. Im like why, dad says” Cuz its.cheap”, But i wasn’t sad about it, I finally realized that Baruch was the better college out of all CUNY colleges so i was mildly excited. So before my college started i decided to make a commitment that i would do better and work hard  than i ever did in highschool in order to mould my ambition to be a reality. For this i have to thank my parents for supporting me all  the way since i was child, they use to say “success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration” which got stuck on me. And also owe my gratitude to God for all the wisdom and guidance i received in India. Oh yeah, My favorite ambition is watching sports and not playing them for obvious reasons( IM A REALLY FAT GUY)

Sup guys, I haven’t actually blogged in a long time even though I have a tumblr, but this IS homework..

This is probably the only homework that I’m actually happy to do. A lot of my classes at Baruch haven’t been as I expected. I expected to have lecture halls and whatnot but I ended up with classes that range from sixteen to a hundred twenty students. Baruch was not my first choice, but I hope to learn a lot and to find out exactly what I want to major in. I hope to meet and befriend many colleagues as well as get on the right track to a more successful life.

I love sports, probably because I’m so damn competitive. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I guess it can get annoying sometimes. I’m not the nicest guy out there and I don’t like putting up with shit that I should not even  have had to put up with in the beginning. I’m pretty straight-forward. If anyone has an instagram and really want to know what I’m truly interested in then check me out! my username is jacobbkim.

That’s pretty much it, and I look forward to the next class meeting.

Hello, It’s Abhinav Gupta here, well you can call me Abhi. or Abhinator.
& I was also planning on making a video but due to NFL SUNDAY… my schedule wasn’t compatible.
My Hobbies : Well, I’m an avid tennis player. During the summer, I would wake up around 7 am and play until 12 pm. I was a fiend. I would play for hours upon hours.
– Also, I love to play Basketball with harold. Me and him have been playing a lot with Julius and Shah. Also, I love playing/watching football, love watching golf. I actually just love every sport, because they’re challenging in their own ways. I don’t believe any sport is “easy”. Every sport is tough in its own way. Also, I love reading the newspaper. I love understanding how current news shapes and changes the world around us. I also love reading about other peoples opinions and try to understand why they’re thinking this way.
My favorite hobby is driving. I love to drive, I am a bit reckless – but I think I’m a very good driver. Speed limit is 65 mph everywhere!!! My Personality – I would really classify myself as lenient. I am never worried, scared, fearful. I’m always smiling and enjoying every day. I actually don’t remember the last time I was upset…. well then…
Oh, I am a very serious person at times. Once I focus, its razor-sharp.
Flaws – Losing. Hate Losing. hate it. very much so. Special ability? – Uhm. I have the ability to think critically, which most mammals cannot do. Most Important Skill : being Competitive. Life’s a competition ( natural selection ??? ). Gotta beat out the competition, or AIDS will. Major : Analytical Finance. yup. why not? I’m also a member of the Marketing dept. on the Real Estate Club

Which is holding its meeting every thursday. Please come!

My 10 song playlist –

Breaking the habit – Linkin Park

Deep in an ancient Hawaiian forest – Unknown

Space Bound – Eminem

My City – Soulja

Ring of Fire – Johnny Cash

Hurt – Johnny Cash

We made it – Linkin Park

Take Care – Drake

In Da Club – 50 cent

No quitter – Lil Wayne

Hi, I am Anthony Kim and I was born in St. Vincent’s Hospital. I am Korean and my parents came to America in hope of a better life. My hobbies are playing tennis, trumpet and singing. At the beginning, I did not expect to attend Baruch. I had heard all the stereotypes of CUNY schools before. However, after a few weeks here, I have grown to enjoy the diverse community and all its aspects. There is no lack of friendly people in Baruch. It is a great atmosphere. I do not have a solid idea of what I want to do, but I do have an interest in Accounting. This school has a lot to offer and I hope to make my collegiate years some of my best.

When I was born my mother decided to give me the name Lily. However, she didn’t know English at the time and misspelled Lily as Lidy. Unlike some people who would dislike a name considered “unusual” I never thought much about it. I am used to being known as Lidy and I don’t think I can imagine people calling me anything else.

I’ve always seen myself as an organized person. I usually organize my daily routines and I prefer planning things ahead of time. I get extremely irritated when my plans get pushed back to one day but there are times when I can’t help procrastinating.I enjoy reading during my free time and as a child I used to dream of being a writer. Now I find myself more interested in business, especially in marketing.

When I first entered Baruch College I was intimidated by the size of the buildings. Even now I find myself completely new to the building. I worry about adjusting to the environment and remembering what each building has to offer and which rooms they hold. I’m also worried about keeping friends. I have no problem speaking and getting to know people but it is difficult to find people who are willing to keep in contact. I know that after the first semester ends some people I’ve talked to before won’t even greet me anymore. Lastly I’m intimidated by the work I get. I’m used to getting little to do because my previous schools didn’t require much from me.

Despite my worries I still find myself enjoying the atmosphere in Baruch than at my high school Midwood. My high school was extremely crowded and I used to have to squeeze through small gaps or use my bag as a weapon to move in the hallways. It’s also nice to have classmates who care about learning and don’t fool around constantly.

I hope that by the end of the first year at Baruch I can become more hardworking. I recognize the fact that I get lazy easily and hope that I will be pushed to work harder. I need to be used to pressure and large work loads.

My name is Andrew Namdar. I come from a private high school on Long Island. I think I am a goof student and always put effort into what I do. I am not always the smartest, but I work hard to do the best to my ability. There are some subjects that I tend to be stronger in than others, but for the most part I think I am a well-rounded individual. If I had to choose my greatest weakness, it would be reading and writing. I feel that I have a lot to improve in those two fields. Other than school, I enjoy playing all kinds of sport. In the summer I like to play tennis and basketball and in the winter I enjoy going snowboarding.

One concern I have about my freshman year at Baruch College is getting along with all the new people. I am going to a school where I do not know all the people around me, so it is important to get to know all the new faces. Another concern I have is staying on top of all my work. People always tell me there is a lot of work in college, so I need to just stay on top of all of it and hand everything in on time. One final concern I have getting to know the buildings. I need to be familiar with where everything is so when I am going to class, I will not get lost and be late.

My Baruch College experience is different than high school in many different ways. For on thing I went to a high school with only in hundred students in each grade, now going to a college with thousands of students is a big difference. Another way it is different than high school is the size of the chasses. In high school I never had a class with more than twenty-five students. Here at Baruch, you can take a course with 30 students in a classroom setting, or a course with three hundred students in a lecture hall. I hope to start my first year at Baruch right by making an easy transition from high school to college.

I think my first year at college will change me by making me a more responsible individual. Now that I am in college I have to take care of everything on my own. I am the one that is going to be responsible to make sure I am taking the right courses and have the correct materials. I also hope to improve in to fields that I need to work on like reading and writing. Overall I think this is going to be a very productive year at Baruch College.

My name is John Bohnenblusch and my nationality is German and Italian.  I would like to major in Business Marketing or Business Management. I’m not yet sure which one will suit my future interests the best.  My top concern about freshman year would have to be making sure I stay on top of all my work and keeping my grades up because in order to succeed in the future I need to excel now.  I also am concered about waking up on time on my own because if I can not wake up on time then I will not have time to make it to my classes.  Another concern that I have would have to be transportation from my dorms on 97th street to the college that is on 25th street because if I miss the 6 subway downtown at a reasonable time I will be late to my class being that the dorms are a half-hour away.  I think that college life differs from highschool in that the way the classes are run is much different and the fact that you need to manage your time between each and every class.  My first year of school will change me alot becuase of the new surroundings and demand for certain responibilities.  Also how the college blackboard website will give you all the help with your classes you need and show you all of your assigned work.  Also I love to play volleyball and any other sport in the world.

Hello everyone!

As you may know, I am Carina Cybele Verzosa.. FRO peermentor! You all can call me Cybele/ Carina whichever one works (preferably Cybele). Here is a picture  slideshow of almost recent pictures of myself (except for a few) and they all have a story! First one is a meme and I picked that because I love to laugh and anything humorous! If you can guess what the first picture says then you get 10 pts of recitation! JKJK! The next ones are just a compilation of pictures with my family, friends and my lion! (Yeah he’s a lion because he’s a leo and for some reason I’m a turtle…. The group picture was taken last semester and Ascend’s end of the semester Banquet! We had food, partied stayed up all night and went home! It was my first time staying up with friends and not going home! (Happiest time of my life.. Sadly… but also the most irritating because I was walking in heels the entire time -_-) Second to the last is a picture of sushi! I absolutely love food and this one is one of my favorites! I had it for the first time last Sunday, it’s called Valentine’s Sushi! Going back to food and how I love eating… There is only 1 type of food that I hate. When I say hate I mean that I would rather be buried alive and served to sharks (knocks on wood) than eat BITTERMELON!! God I hate the stuff …..

OK ok! I’ve written a lot about myself now, let me write one last  thing! It’s about the final picture, yesssssss!!! I wanted to show you how I looked when I was 4!! Look at that uniform!!! So cute!!! JK that’s my sister….
