Our group made the New York Times “front page” about music festivals. We chose music festivals as our topic because we first wanted to do about raves and electronic festivals but that was too narrow. So we decided to make our topic more vague. Out group selected articles events from Tommorow world, Electric Zoo, EDC, and the concert that was held at Baruch with the famous artist, Jojo. These articles concerns our life during the first semester at Baruch because we are starting to move forward in our life and we should not forget to have fun as well. These music festivals are a great way for students like us to, relieve our stress, forget about exams and grades, and just have fun in general.

My group and I decided to create our New York Times front page on music festivals. Music festivals are a great place to discover great new music and to just have a good time. Although music festivals are a great way to have fun, there have been a lot of news worthy things happening in some of these festivals. The music festival, Ezoo, for example, had two unfortunate deaths due to drug abuse. We basically tried to include some of the most news worthy headlines about music festivals onto our front page. We were also aware about the recent concert held at Baruch, where famous singer, Jojo, performed a few of her hits. We wrote about that for our article that related to Baruch. The concert highlights one of many fun events that Baruch has had for its students. My individual role for this project was to find a few interesting articles from around the world that related to our topic and summarize them.

Basically for the New York Times ‘Front Page’ assignment, my group and I chose sports. We all seem to enjoy both playing and watching sports. It’s great entertainment and a way to kind of keep your mind off of things. It brings excitement. I think sports and being active in general is important during your first semester at Baruch College. You want to try to be active in clubs or sports to get to know people and you might even get tot know yourself a bit better. Building relationships is important so don’t be shy. Put yourself out there! I actually haven’t even looked into joining a team or club but i would love to. Looks like a lot of fun and I’m pretty sure none of us want our four years to be miserable/boring at Baruch.

The theme that our group chose together was the food around the campus. The title was “Feast on This!” and we chose this theme because it was very important and a diverse topic that wasnt touched upon. In the group project, I was the person who designed the website and collaborated with each individual to bring everything together from the pictures to the posts. Finally, I understood that news literacy can vary in range of topics and also be important on different levels whether its locally, on a state level, or nationally.

Our group decided to do the NY Times project based on food that can be found around Baruch College. As first semester freshmen it is imperative that we know where to go for a quick snack or a decent lunch. Although it may sound unimportant, knowing where to eat and making sure that we, as students, eat properly is much more significant than other academic responsibilities. No food during class and a growling stomach is the worst possible combination since our attention is now shifted from class to food. Not knowing where to eat can easily lead a student to going to the same place for the same , sometimes very unhealthy, food. We all know the famous “Freshman 15” is out to get us, however,by knowing where to go, or where not to go, we can easily avoid this frustrating freshman plague. As the years go on, eventually Baruch students will learn the tricks of the school and how to get around, however, for us freshman, many of which have never been to school in the city or are from out of town, it is crucial that we know how to get around, even if its something as simple as lunch. My role in this project was to find an article based on one of the many restaurants near campus and discuss it as well as complete the Bearcat post. Initially, I believed that the Bearcat post was going to be the most difficult, and it was, however, Baruch’s Magazine made it very easy for me to find out about East20sEats.com which proved to be sufficiently related to Baruch that it could be used as the Bearcat post.

My name is Tomasz Blaszczyk. I apologize for this being late. I am a Polish American and I was in fact the first one in my family to be born in the States. Even though everyone calls me the american in the family, I am probably the most polish. I love participating in Polish  events wether it be supporting a polish boxer ringside or going to the Polish parade. I am from Staten Island but originally from Brooklyn. I liked Brooklyn but we moved when I was 10 and I have gotten used to the Island now. Every now and then I like to go do something wild, like  this weekend I plan on going skydiving with my brother. I feel like the songs I chose represent me in a way but there are also just some songs I like listening to.

Hi everyone, my name is Michael Sukram. I was born in the United States, but both of my parents were born in Guyana, that makes me Guyanese American. I was raised and currently live in Queens, New York. I would say I am a very laid back person but I do get serious when it counts. I am very shy and scared to talk to new people, but once you get to know me I am very talkative. Honestly I am a kid at heart and I can’t believe I am in college already. With all these decisions that impact our life’s, I feel like I am not ready to make them. Though college is very scary and daunting, I am up for the challenge. Family and friends are the most important thing to me. They are my support group and I am theirs. I want to be successful and be the greatest person I can be. I want to make my parents proud and give back to them all they have given me. The playlist i created tells a lot about me. These songs motivate and inspire me. These songs show my determination and drive to be someone in life. I love all these songs and I hope you will too.

Hi guys, my name is Vincent Wang. I know this blog post is late, and this is a great example of what kind of person I am. I’m a very forgetful guy and I’m very unorganized. This is something I want to change especially because I am in college now. I am Chinese. I spent my whole life in Brooklyn. I went to Brooklyn Technical High School and I was in the environmental engineer major. A lot of students from Brooklyn Tech ended up attending Baruch so I see a lot of familiar faces everyday. I think it’s pretty easy to get to know me and I’m very outgoing. I love to smile and laugh. When I have free time, I’m usually hanging out with friends, playing ball in the park, or working out in the gym. I used to work at Carvel but it took up a lot of time so I quit for college. The music playlist consists of many different genres and I think that shows a little bit of who I am because I like a little bit of everything. I’ve very open to new things.

Hey everybody, my name is Wilson Tam. I was born in America, and my heritage is Chinese. My parents are from Hong Kong and I have one older sister who is currently attending Boston University. I live in Staten Island and attended Staten Island Technical High School. Although I live in Staten Island, I enjoy hanging out in many different boroughs; especially Brooklyn. My favorite hobbies are chilling with friends, playing sports, and driving.  The songs I chose, I chose because I like them and for no other reason. I can’t say that these songs really show who I am but I can say that they have effected my life significantly.

It’s a pleasure to meet you all, my name is Yoshinori Andy Shinohara. Yoshinori is a combination of my fathers name and grandfathers name. Andy was my fathers favorite name because of the brand “andy-boy”. My dad is the store owner of a japanese cuisine restaurant in soho and when I was born they stopped ordering from that company, thus it became my english name. My parents were both born in Japan while my siblings and I were born in New York City. I am fluent in Japanese because while attending elementary, middle, and some of my high school years, I attended a Japanese saturday school. There I learned what the students in Japan were learning except that for me one weeks worth of school work was compressed into 6 hours. I attended 2 high schools, but I graduated from Cardozo high school. I really liked high school even though I didn’t do much, except slack and bum around. I like to have fun no matter where I go even if it the most tedious thing ever. I wish to get far in life after college, but I have honestly no idea where I am headed to even though I am in a business college. I still have not been able to grasp the fact that I am a college student. I am the type to not choose things until the last minute. So until the very last minute I will try to have as much fun as possible. Yes, it sounds very irresponsible but this is the way I figured works best for me. Under some conditions in life I may choose a new way to live life but for now I am going go through with this. I am very anxious about the future that lays ahead of us, and I wish you all the best in life.
