Music is used for many purposes. It can be used to make us feel a certain way, celebrate an event, or even to help us get through a tough. When trying to describe myself, I found that music can be very effective. The songs I show show the person I am and try to be.

For starters, I feel the song Happy by Pharrell Williams is a very accurate song to describe me.Those who know say I always have a smile on my face. I try to share my happiness with those around and make them happy as well. This theme is also shown in another song I choose, Good Life by OneRepublic. This song tells us that while we must work hard in life, it is a waste if we do not enjoy it. I feel this to be very true and I try to practice it. While I work very hard both in and out of school, I also make time to enjoy life. I do not feel life should only be about getting money, which is talked about in the son Money by Pink Floyd. The use of sarcasm in this song correctly tells what I feel. Just because you have an abundance of money does not mean you will be happy. Another trait i fell i have is that I am a good, reliable friend. The song You’ve Got a Friend in Me by Michael Buble shows this. If any of my friends ever need help with anything at all I am there to help. I feel thats what a good friendship is two people will try at all means to help other the other person. Aloe Blacc’s The Man is also a very good song that describes me. This saying means that you are have or are on pave to doing great things. I have always been a good student and people often say this about me.

A trait i feel many songs talk about that describe me is resiliency. I will never back down from a challenge no matter how difficult which is why the song Won’t Back Down by Eminem is a perfect fit. We must not run a challenge we face but rather do everything we can to try and overcome it. I learn from these challenges which make me stronger as person. The song Stronger by Kanye West say, “that that don’t kill me can only make me stronger” which shows how I learn from the hard obstacles that I may in my life time. I feel that the reason I have these trains is from my upbringing. I was born and raised in New York, so the song Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z applies to me. The song says, ‘If i can make it here i can make it anywhere”. Finally, the song Human by Christina Perri shows that while I may be strong I still have my flaws and week points. I am human just like anyone else and have moments of weakness.

A World Where Roses Bloom

I’m a person with many interests and desires in life, this shows mostly in the music I listen to. Music to me is a way of expressing myself, a way of cheering myself up, and it’s mostly the reason I I have an emotional connection with most songs I usually listen to. What you see, is a small portion of what I would listen to everyday.

As an international student, I sometimes need a reminder of home, of memories and friends and the first four songs in my playlist represent a part of those reminders. These used to be our go to songs with my best friends, we’d listen to them every time we got together. We were so obsessed that even when we went out we would make the places we were regulars at to play the songs we wanted to and they often did. Especially, Escape by Jack Johnson became “our song” with my best friend and now I play it to feel as if she was around and sometimes this even helps me cope with a bad day.

The next three songs are my go to “feeling good” songs, if I’m feeling down or just tired these songs always seem to put a smile on my face. Any song by Ed Sheeran is a perfect example of this, but I put in I’m a mess because the melody is soothing and even though it’s a song about being confused, it somehow makes me feel better.

The last four songs (including Feeling Good by Nina Simone which is a part of the above category too), are those I like to sing. La Vie en Rose has recently been my favourite because it is a cute story to tell since it is a story of a woman in love. A little fall of rain on the other hand, is from my favourite musical “les miserables” and the second biggest song of my favourite character, Eponine. My dream is to be her on stage one day.

And finally, thank you for the music (originally by ABBA but this cover speaks to me more),as the songs says I’ve been singing since I can remember. Music is the biggest aspect of my life and it is personal and emotional for me, even movie scores are moving and meaningful if listened to with a calm ear. Overall, music is my life and my whole library is a long and detailed soundtrack of my life.

Blog Assignment 1

My first song is Applause, it screams at me that not only you must be good at what you do, you must put 110% in order to gain approval from the public. Also,I believe that it represents me because I always try to do my best for my parents. Also, Lady Gaga is Mother Monster and she slays.
The second Song I chose was Roar, it shows that I am tired of being belittled and tired of living under other peoples’ standards. I will live my life how I want to, fierce and strong like Katy Perry. Also I’m a huge fan.
The next song I chose was Party in the USA because it was the first song I listened to on my iPod, which is the first electronic my mom got me. It is probably one of Miley Cyrus’s best songs from when she was lets just say…more conservative?
The fourth song I chose was Teenage Dream because I totally wish for one day to meet someone who could be the same for me, making me feel like I am in a teenage dream. And of course, I also watched glee’s version when Blaine was crying when he sang it to Kurt and it was just beautiful. I am a huge fan of this song.
For my fifth song, I chose Fly by Nicki Minaj because she will most definitely swerve on you if you go against her and you will deserve it. Also it is a very inspirational song because it doesn’t focus on what others views of her are, it emphasizes on what she will strive to do. I want this mindset.
For my sixth song, I chose Fancy because I believe that I am not basic, i am next level and upcoming. No one is able to stop be because first things first, I’m the realest. All of these inspirational songs Bring my spirits up and it doesn’t matter what others think of it. Also, I just think that cliques are totally overrated in general. In the music video, she works her stuff. In less formal words, “you do you boo boo”.
The next song i chose to represent me is called Break Free, I just think Arianne Grande is extremely aesthetically beautiful and the song embodies my vision of society. Her vocals are just amazing and I completely admire her. The title speaks for itself, it is another way of saying “I am a proud and I will not allow the chains of society to hold me down”
The next song I choose is Rather Be because this song is just so catchy, its melody, its instrumental, Everything is just so well melded together. And I can safely say I’m a hopeless romantic, this song is currently my jam. Its been my jam ever since I found out about it.
The follow song I LOVED was Let it Go by Idina Menzel, I discovered her on Glee as Rachael’s birth mother but I rediscovered her as Elsa and I think she slayed this song. Also, I’ve always wanted to see an actual Broadway performer perform and this song so far is the closest I’ve been to that.
The last song is probably one of the most important songs to me because Lady Gaga is a global icon for the LGBT community and I adore her. I and very proud to say that she is the Mother Monster, I am also honored for her to represent the voice that lifts so many torn spirits. She accepts all and she is very enthusiastic about her work, her fans and her reputation.

3. Arabesque #1 by Debussy                      8. Save My Night- by Armin van Buuren, BlasterJaxx

4. The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole   9. The Nutcracker, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy

5. C.R.E.A.M. by Wu Tang Clan                     10. Wicked by Firebeatz Schella

I’ve decided to create a music playlist to speak for who I am. In this playlist, a listener can find songs from many different genres, because variety keeps things more interesting and entertaining. I included some songs from the genre of house music, specifically because House music and EDM have a soothing effect for me, even though it tends to be very loud. This reflects on the fact that I need to relax every now and then, because I tend to be somewhat anxious.

There are also a couple of rap songs because I realize the profound struggles some people have to face in unfortunate circumstances. This helps me to be grateful for what I have but has also led to me becoming a little cynical. The beats in the songs are also nice. I also included two rock songs that I like, both of which sound pretty cool, which seems to be the norm in this genre.

Finally, I added classical music because of how beautiful it sounds. Sometimes it is nice to just listen to music that does not have any words and is open to interpretation by the listener. Another beautiful song is “The Christmas Song”, by Nat King Cole. I included this song because I can easily picture the scenario that he is singing about, and Christmas is my favorite holiday because it’s a time when everyone is a little less selfish.

Freshman Seminar Post 1 (due: 17.09.2014)

Hey guys!

1. My first picture is what is most important to me, my family. I have moved many times and, of course, my family is always constant.

2. My friends are also really important to me. I was very fortunate to find a couple of really honest and valuable friends this past year. We got really close really fast and they helped me get through school.

3. Next is the fact that I love, and I mean LOVE to travel!!!!!!! I can’t imagine not going places and having new experiences!

4. My senior year I finally found something that felt really confident about (sports wise). I hated sports before and then I made volleyball cuts. I was so excited! Volleyball is really important to me because I grew confident in doing things that were out of my comfort zone.

5. Music! I love it! Who doesn’t? This pic I have is of a viola. I learned how to play and instantly loved it! Of course I love other kinds of music too, I will listen to anything!

6. Next is movies! I don’t watch TV so movies is the next best thing! I chose this particular picture because my roommate and I are going to see it on Friday Night!

7. Since I don’t watch TV, and I don’t always watch movies, I always read. Where I used to live, you would reed in your free time too… (it never stops raining). I LOVE to get lost in a book! This picture is of my favorite series at the moment. (It always changes).

8. Finally, as far as character goes, this is probably my most important trait I think I have. I am very cultured. Maybe no so much in the average teenage American culture, but other cultures in general. These pictures symbolize where I am from and where I have been. I am Hispanic and I have lived in Europe with a large international community… that’s pretty cultured, I’d say.

I had LOTS of trouble getting my PPtP on the Blog so, here is a link to my Prezi which is exactly the same thing:

Musical Playlist – Bibi Morium

So I made a 10 song playlist that speaks to who I am.

The first song is called Master of Tides by Lindsey Stirling and it’s completely instrumental. I used to play the violin but unfortunately I’ve dropped the habit. I always listen to Lindsey Stirling, her music is what inspired me to start playing, and I still listen to it. This one is my favorite track.

The second is How To Save A Life by The Fray. I mostly enjoy this song because of the lyrics and because I kind of see myself with the protagonist. If there’s a problem I usually won’t fight it, I’d make a list of problems and so forth and try to mitigate myself out of the situation, and I guess I would also like to save a life? I don’t know.

The third and fourth are both by Fall Out Boy, one of my favorite bands. Light Em’ Up and The Phoenix I enjoy purely because I like the rhythm of the song, nothing great.

The fifth, I’ll Make A Man Out Of You, is from one of my favorite Disney movies, Mulan. I enjoyed the song because well it was basically about making a man out of a woman, and I found that ironic and interesting at the same time.

The sixth, Hall Of Fame would be that inspirational song everyone has. I obviously want to be successful, but not income-wise. I just want to be known and show people that I can be successful, and that anyone can.

The seventh, Black or White is my favorite song by Michael Jackson. My older sister is a huge fan of him so it kind of rubbed off on me. I enjoy this song because it speaks to how I feel about racism.

The eighth song, Try, portrays how I feel about the way media and others can make us want to be someone else and look like someone else without even taking into consideration what we would like to do. I feel there’s a pressure to look a certain way – for both men and women – and that ultimately changes who we are without our opinion.

The ninth song, Rude, isn’t one of my favorite songs, and sometimes it can actually get really tiring when you hear it too much, but it perfectly depicts – in a comical way – my future. My parents are very culturally conservative so I think it’s obvious who they would want me to marry, etc, etc. And then that also ties into other things. Becoming the traditional Asian doctor, and being a part-time engineer are among those other things. (Business is way better, though.)

The last song is an Indian song, from not my favorite Indian movie (that would be Patiala House, you guys should watch it by the way). The reason I chose this song is just to give a glimpse at my culture, and it is also the song my cousins most recently performed to. I love watching them dance, because I am incapable of preforming a single dance move, and this song’s performance was among my favorite.

Music is such a vast medium, the content generated for music may as well be infinite. That being said, music that makes a connection with a listener, an interpretation as personal to the listener as it has with the artist, truly shows how powerful the medium is and can be. The first seven songs are songs that exemplify my thoughts regarding how powerful I think the medium is personally.

The first track, written and performed by Julian Casablancas, stuck to my inner psyche and reverberated in the inner most crevices of my mind when I had first listened to it. Not because the song impressed me. but because the pure rawness of the track itself spoke to me. This ultimately enhanced the song as a whole for me, Casablancas’ lyrics don’t play into any really specific events or visualizations, which allowed me to project my own images and experiences in place of each verse.

Same goes to say for the next six tracks, each song playing into  different recollections of my memory and my own imagination. These tracks help me remember the things I’ve done and what I’ve seen, from my first time seeing snow to the first time I decided to smoke, it’s all easier and more vivid to reminisce with audible stimulation.

As any artist would, I draw much inspiration from the world around me. Audible stimulation being one primary source of my own. Instrumental pieces hold to me as much merit, for I find it more stimulating. I’ve drawn and illustrated countless times while listening to the same instrumental track, each more different than the last.

Music is a big part of what I love to do, and that’s game development. Interactive media is a medium that incorporates not only visual elements, but audio as well. Though, arguably most important, individual involvement is what defines and differentiates interactive media from other artistic mediums. My favorite titles and series’ such as Legend of Zelda, Professor Layton, The World Ends With You, and so on, all create and promote a specific ascetic. This is not accomplished by implementing art elements that share a similar style, but incorporates audible stimulation that plays into that ascetic. All of which, fascinates me.

RIchard’s Slide show

For my blog post i decided to do the eight picture slide. My first picture is of a Puertorican flag because i was born and raised there and like a typical hispanic I am overly proud of my heritage. My second photo is of a big stack of cash because thats what its all about. In the end were all just paper chasing because money is freedom and yes it does bring happiness. My third picture is of Ke$ha Rose Serbert who is a singer and the perfect human. Shes so hot and id marry her right now if i could. If anyone is a dime piece its her. Oh and I like her music too. The fourth picture is of me playing basketball on my highschool team. Basketball is a big part of my life; I have been playing it since i was 8 but since i’m 5’9 and white my career seems to be coming to an end. However i will always play basketball weather its in a old mans league or just pick up at the park.  The fifth picture is of me and two of my highschool friends in the bathroom. Hanging out with my friends is probably my favorite thing to do. For my sixth picture i put musical notes because music is a big part of my life. I like alot of different kinds of music and no country is not one of them. My seventh picture is of my dog Beauty. I love my pets more than my siblings. They’re always happy to see you and will always keep it real because they’re loyal. My eighth and final picture is of a plate of rice and beans and a pork chop because food is a huge part of my life.  For the background music i chose a song that inspires me not only because of the lyrics but also because of this artists deliver; it gave me chills.
