To be honest, compiling my life into eight photos was a difficult assignment. But, as I was rummaging through my pictures, I realized that this is actually a great opportunity. I have the chance to reintroduce myself, to show who I really am, and present my life in the way that I want it to be seen.

For starters, the beach is my all time favorite thing in the world. The picture i chose was one that i took myself last year in St. Marteen. A fun fact is that whenever I feel sick, stressed, cold, or anything else unpleasant, i picture myself relaxing on the beach. Oddly enough, i actually enjoy the complete opposite as well – skiing. Although my love for the beach would make you think that summer is my favorite season, it actually isn’t. I LOVE the winter. Everyone is happy because of the holidays, and December is my birthday month! So naturally, i look forward to winters. Year-round, my favorite food is ice-cream. This was hard to choose because i love all food and felt bad leaving out pasta, sushi, pizza, bagels, and more, but that alone would take up the 8 picture limit. The next picture is with my sisters. One is 20, and the other is 6. I sometimes complain about them, but my Rebecca gives me great advice, and Isabel brings out my fun and responsible sides. My “selfie” with the Baruch Bearcat is included because i want to show my pride in going to such an amazing school! I included a picture of my best friends from high school, Becca and Casey. Usually, before college, people’s closest friends are the ones they met in kindergarden. In my case, I met Becca and Casey in my junior year, and felt like i have known them my entire life. One of my best memories with them is when we went to the Kanye West concert. We had such incredible seats, and I got to see Kim Kardashian and the rest of the family! The last photo is probably the most important. I view fashion as art, and it is something that I am very passionate about. I know that it is a very exclusive industry from designers to models. As a business major, accounting specifically, my dream is to one day be able to work for a designer clothing company and go to a real fashion show!

These eight pictures have served as a short preview into my life and I am proud to share it with my fellow classmates!

It’s very difficult to describe myself or who I think I am within just  eight pictures. However these pictures do represent some of the many things that are significant to me. My sister Sonia and my best friend Sarah are the people I trust the most, and the two people that help to motivate me and I can count on them to be there for me whenever I need help. I sometimes find it hard to rely on others for anything because I’m a perfectionist but they help me to realize that people aren’t that bad. I can be shy at times, but when I really get to know someone I’m able to open up to them and express myself more. My dog Fluffy is also a big part of my life because he’s a big responsibility and also a part of my family. He’s like the baby in my house because we all spoil him and he gets away with pretty much anything. He also helps me when I’m stressed out because I always feel a lot better when I take him out to the park or for a walk. Three things that my life also consists of are: 1. Eating, 2. Music, and 3. Reading. I love to eat, especially french fries, but I can be really picky with my food which my mom really hates. I’m not as open to trying new things, but lately I have been and the foods that I have tried haven’t been bad. Music and reading are both a big part of my life because in a way, they’re my escape from the real world. Whenever I listen to music or read a good book I feel at ease and I can forget whatever has been bothering me. I also have loved reading since I was younger, I would love to go to the library and pick out new books to read for the week. I would take 4-5 books at a time and I always read at a higher level so I learned to read very fast. Another thing that is significant to me is travelling. I would really like to see new places and meet people around the world, its always been one of my goals for when I’m older. I think that learning about and experiencing new cultures is amazing because people can be so different yet so interesting at the same time. Since I’m Hindu, one of the places I would like to visit is India because it seems like such an amazing place with many sites to visit. Basically, these are the things that help to define  who I am as well as who I want to be.

One of the first things people will probably get to know about me is my love (sometimes to a crazy extent) of theatre and everything that goes into it. It has been such a large part of my life for such a long time, that I have started to come to the conclusion that I really feel incomplete if I am not creating theatre in some form or another, may that be acting, writing, or working backstage. Going to see shows has also become a very nice treat for myself, especially alongside the incredible friends I have made through this art. Also, as the medium that has become the main form of self-expression for me, I only saw it fitting to display who I am by putting the rest of the images on the stage. I write different kinds of stories as well, and spend my time around people. Both cases are seen as learning experiences for me, and ones I truly love to do.Some might say that I’m down to earth and realistic, though half the time I don’t know what they are talking about because I am always day dreaming up some new story. As some of my fellow classmates have seen firsthand already, I am obsessed with dogs and will stop mid-sentence to point one out. There is just something comforting about being around these furry creatures that are always so affectionate. If you spend time with me long enough, you will see that my friends and family mean the world to me. And for some reason, in each group of friends I have, someone always teasingly gives me the nickname “momma” or “mother bear”. Reading also holds  a special place in my heart, especially since it opened me up to the magical world of Harry Potter, to which I have been a dedicated fan ever since. I very much feel defined by these things; theatre, writing, friends, family, dogs, and caring, as each has played a key part into the creation of my identify and how I view the world around me.

NYC Macau reading Piano Hong Kong Writing Necklace Hot Fries

It’s a little difficult to condense everything into approximately 8 images especially when your photographic abilities extend to only Instagram, but I managed. To start off, I chose three pictures of places that meant something to me, and five pictures that relate to my hobbies and interests. The pictures of the townhouse with greenery, the ocean, and the temple are from NYC, Macau, and Hong Kong. All three of these places have had a great impact on me; NYC because it’s my home, Macau because of its beauty and ties to my family, and the temple in Hong Kong is very special- in an increasingly industrialized area, there still remains this very serene and historical place, and while visiting last summer I really connected to the location because I’ve recently experienced a surge of desire to research and learn more about my ethnic culture despite the significant modernization.
Hot fries have a special meaning for me; they are the food of the gods (I don’t care what anyone else says) and it tastes like the good memories of high school, when everyone knew of my addiction to them. The other four pictures are the primary mediums through which I de-stress or express myself. I’ve been writing since I learned how to and it’s been an art that will probably stay with me forever. Crafting and making things has also been a huge part of my childhood, but I only started making jewelry between middle school and high school (and I’m proud to say, I made a lot of progress since then.) I love reading, I’ll read almost anything, and I have so many books it’s becoming a problem. Finally, music is a large factor in my life, and since I can carry a tune, it is also a way for me to express myself, although I spend most of my time making parodies instead of ever writing anything serious. To sum it up, I’m an individual who’s searching for her roots and has too much creative energy with too little time to put it where I want to.

Wow, this is confuzzling.
But, here we go.

Linked, below is my two-minute video, and below that is my post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_A34xec0H0

For this blog post, I chose to create a two-minute video that represented who I am. The video starts off with introducing my ethnic background, and where I grew up. I chose to do a voiceover, while showing footage relating to the voiceover to express my message.
I discuss my interests such as playing basketball, hip-hop dancing, and video production in the video as well. I play basketball with my friends during the weekend, and it is one of my favorite sports. During highschool, several others and I created hip-hop choreography and performed in a dance show for two years. This grew my interest in hip-hop dancing. Additionally, in highschool I was also in a video production unit for a program called Wolverine TV. I was responsible for editing and filming video content for the show, some of which are shown in the video. Moving on from highschool, many of these interests of mine still remain, and I hope to blend them in with my time here at Baruch College. I wish to learn new things, join new clubs, and create new connections. In this video, I attempted to express my interests, and the goals I have for my time in college. I think this video speaks to who I am because it uses one of my hobbies itself, video production, and also establishes a few things about my personality.
