Last week I attended a majors and minors fair held during club hours at the vertical campus. I went with a friend who was also a business major to help browse and decide on a minor. The fair was huge and contained many interesting topics. This helped expand my view on subjects i hadn’t considered before. I would like to pursue a minor in mathematics but i had no idea how many variations there were or different paths i could choose. the fair didn’t help me come to an exact decision on what i want to minor in but it help me branch out from business.

Attending A college swim meet: Evan Nikolic
Evan Nikolic
On Tuesday the twenty fourth, I attended a women’s swim meet at William Paterson University. At 3:00 pm we all piled into vans and started our trip to Wayne, New Jersey. This was a duel meet for both the men’s and women’s team so I would be spending half the meet as a spectator and the other half competing. The women would be swimming first and the first event was the medley relay. This is when four swimmers each swim two laps each being different disciplines. The girls took first place and finished with a time of 2:06.14. After a few more individual events, the two hundred free style and the two hundred individual medley, the one meter diving started. This was a men and women event with four rounds in total. The dives were preformed very well with one diver receiving an 8 across the board.
After the diving finished, the officials cleared the pool and allowed the swimmers to warm up. After a few more events the score was very close. The last event was the two hundred free relay. They got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover. The Women would go on to lose by 10 points. The men’s meet went even worse. We won the first relay and took third place with our second relay. After that we took a few more first places and watched the three meter diving event. The meet ended at 9 pm and we arrived back at the school at 11. It was a great experience hanging out and watching people accomplish the things they train every day for, despite not winning.
Visiting the Anya and Andrew Shiva Gallery

I was assigned a response essay to the art found in the Anya and Andrew Shiva art gallery. This project required I choose a piece of art and write a response to it. The gallery was located in the John Jay campus which meant it was accessible to me with my Cuny ID. The exhibit was filled with art demonstrating the overbearing nature of the Chinese government This exhibit was filled with controversial ideas and nudity which opposed the strict nature of the government of china. On my way to the gallery I met up with a friend who attends John Jay and took a tour of the campus.
Many of the works were created to represent the average Chinese civilian. There were works including statues showing head figures in the ruling regime. This works were considered very controversial as they are satirical and mocking the elite. This removal of freedom of speech has lead to many actions against the regime, including actions taken by activists including Aw Weiwei.
This was the first time I have ever attended an art show as I am not interested in the subject material. The striking white walls and massive works of art were unlike any experience I’ve had before. The journey to to John Jay was not very enjoyable either. Requiring a subway ride to 59th street and a walk across Manhattan. Thankfully this gallery was totally free with use of my Baruch id, unlike many other galleries. I look forward to seeing the other required galleries, required by the class.
