Well, a few weeks ago I attended the Resume Writing Workshop. It was my first time and I was very bewildered when I just saw a bunch of socializing students. Still perplexed, I sat down with my friends since there were no other apparent places to head. Luckily, after a pretty long hour wait, the instructor arrived. I can’t specifically remember her name right now but she did a really nice job emphasizing the purpose of a resume and the dos and don’ts. I did learn a few things about writing my resume as a college student despite my initial motive of completing my FRO assignment. This is a pretty useful resource. The next time I need some extra help in an area, I think I will probably look at the list of available workshops and revisit VC 2-150.

FUSION FEAR FACTOR
This is a picture of me contemplating my life. Not too long ago, I was selected to represent FUSION in their annual “Fear Factor” competition where we have to eat exotic menus from different cultures. It was clubs against clubs and whoever finished their plates first would advance to the next round and eventually win. Unfortunately, my team didn’t have enough will power to win the whole thing. However, the experience was awesome. I got to eat a developing bird embryo, crickets, ants and a lot more odd platters that didn’t taste bad at all. I definitely would compete again next year if I get the opportunity and hopefully win.
This is me performing my poem at Baruch Voices. Surprisingly, I was selected by my FRO class to recite a poem that I wrote in about 30 minutes. However, the experience was great. I got to hear all the different performances from my freshmen class. My poem was more of a comical one that hurt a few but made most of the audience laugh after I performed it. I was first hesitant about performing the poem but I ended up doing it to give the stressed students from Baruch a nice laugh. I also got a free moleskin notebook that I haven’t touched since I received it but it’s because I want it to be useful rather than doodling all over it. In all seriousness, I’d like to thank my FRO class and mentors for this opportunity. Public speaking isn’t really my thing, but I enjoyed performing at Baruch Voices.
Majors/Minors Festival
So I spent my last blog post at the Majors/Minors festival. There was a lot of tables around and I wasn’t able to get to all of them, however, I was able to to check out the Journalism and Theater table. They gave me a lot of information and insight as to what they go over during this course and I found it very helpful. The professor at the Theater table even referred me to a play that was going to be happening at BPAC so that was exciting to know. Despite still not being able to determine my major, I had a fun, educating time at the Majors/Minors festival!
Attend writing center
In the sociology class, the professor offered us a chance. She invited a professor from writing center to help us. I made an appointment of writing center to revise my assignment. It is really good opportunity to have a chance to be there. They helped me to improve my grade. Moreover, their services are so well. If I do not have time to go there for face to face meeting. I can send my draft to questions online. I will get feedback as soon as possible. Do not be afraid to be there. It helps me so much because I am struggling with my English writing skill.
Bystander Intervention Training
On Thursday, November 16th, I went to a Bystander Intervention training here at Baruch. The overall environment there was good and there was also free pizza at this event. The presentation was really well done and they gave us a pen that has facts of sexual harassment and assault as well as where to find help. The first thing we talked about was the definition of bystander. We also discussed different scenarios that could be presented in where someone could prevent a possible sexual assault or harassment from happening. Another thing we discussed were the three possible ways to prevent some sort of sexual assault or harassment from happening. They were to distract the perpetrator, delegate or tell someone else to defuse the situation or to directly get involved in the situation. Lastly, we were shown a short clip that was interesting. In this clip it shows how people could have intervened to stop sexual assault from happening to an unconscious woman. Above all, I highly recommend attending this event (if there is another event like this one in the future) because it teaches you mainly how to intervene in possible sexual assault scenarios.
MAIP
I attended an internship event for marketing called MAIP. At the event I was able to learn about a program for internships for marketing and heard about other people who were in the program. I learned about how some to apply for it and where the internships are. The event was through the marketing club and helped me find out more about internships. The event had a panel of Baruch students who had gotten internships through it and they gave information on what they did to get there internships. This event let me understand how to get an internship in marketing.
Majors & Minors Fair
A few weeks ago, I got the chance to attend the Majors and Minors Fair here in Baruch College. Going in, I was hoping to be able to find a major that best suits me as a person. There were many different tables set up based on the different majors and minors the school has to offer. The most dense tables were majors such as finance, accounting, and marketing which is understandable as Baruch is a business school. I got the chance to learn about different liberal arts minors I should take next fall as well such as psychology or history. However, I still have not really found something that I want to be doing for the rest of my life. But, at least I learned what my choices are which is a step in the right direction.
Club Fair
My visit at the fair was quite an interesting one. Before going there, I thought it was going to be boring and a waste of time however, once I walked in, I was stunned with amazement. So many different clubs and so much diversity. My first stop was the japan club because I visited a Japanese festival in the summer and I got hooked on there food and there culture. Walking around, I ended up at the adrenaline club. The club members told me that they do various outdoor activities like paintball, rock climbing, etc. I went over to the Hong Kong club and immediately I was met with stares. After I talked to them a bit they were actually very friendly. During my visit the LGBTQ club was kind enough to pass out condoms, unfortunately the brand was a very trustworthy one. Throughout my entire visit, I was very pleased with not only the clubs but the DJ as well. The music that they played was very exhilarating and made the visit more enjoyable.
Baruch Republican Club
Today I went to a Baruch Republican Club panel featuring three guests, one of them being my own philosophy professor, Mr. James Rowe. The subject that was presented to the panel was about the nuclear weapons in North Korea. They were asked questions regarding the presidents foreign policy as it pertains to North Korea and Kim Jong Un, and if there is anything we can do to stop North Korea from developing and having nuclear weapons. The panel concluded that we will have to live in a world where North Korea has nuclear weapons, and the only thing we can do is threaten them in hopes that they are rational enough to not use them against any countries. The real problem is that if (when) North Korea has nuclear weapons, they will most likely sell them to other countries and organizations, this posing an immediate threat to the United States and the rest of the world. And if multiple countries get involved, this could be a war that is borderline apocalyptic, and we could come very close to the end of the world as we know it.
