Blog Post #1 – Attilio Crupi

For student life I attended a general interest meeting for the co-ed fraternity Beta Alpha Psi. Going into it, I expected a fraternity that was not co-ed and required a hazing similar to the fraternities of other schools. I found that it was the complete opposite, I walked into a room of men and women who looked professional in their business attire which grabbed my attention immediately. I did not know what the fraternity required yet, but I already wanted to be a part of it. As I was looking for a place to stand because the room was literally full of students, I made my way to the back as they were about to begin their presentation. The way they described the fraternity was very simple yet powerful and deep. Beta Alpha Psi was summarized in three words: professionalism, brotherhood, and service. Those three words are the foundation of the organization and of course, they began to explain the requirements that students must satisfy in order to be accepted. The fraternity requires a GPA of 3.5 from high school which I do not have. I ended up having a 3.3 by the end of senior year, however after speaking with a few of the head members of the organization I realized that grades are not the only thing they are looking for. Just like everything else, they are just looking for well rounded people. The advice I was given was just to show up to as many events as I can to get myself known. For me, getting myself known and socializing is my best quality, not to sound arrogant but it is the truth since my grades are not up to par with the expectations of the fraternity. I am very excited to do my best to get accepted by this organization, mainly because it would look great on my resume when applying for jobs in the future and also I will be a part of a family, a family of intelligent and outgoing human beings. This was only one event I have attended at Baruch so far but there will definitely be more to come. This school has so much to offer and I am very happy to be a part of the Baruch community.
