On Thursday, March 23rd I attended a recruitment fair held by Baruch Consulting Club. To be honest, I mainly attended because my friend, whom is a junior, is searching for new career opportunities and had asked me to go with her. Nevertheless, I’m glad I went. The fair was for EY, Earnest and Young, recruitment. The fair was extremely helpful and informational for anyone who is looking to get their foot in the door, career-wise. The leaders of the fair explained how the first moments of your professional life defines the start of an important journey. They explained their values as a company and how their values define who they are. Furthermore, they went on to elaborate on their “Better beings with you” program, which enables the company to recognize and celebrate individuals and teams who work for their company. The recruitment fair was aimed for people who are searching for a job, yet was interesting to me even though I do not plan on searching for a job for some time. Overall, this recruitment fair explained mainly what the life of a worker would look like for EY and the core values of their company. I learned a lot about what my future recruitment journey will look like.

Spring
The Spring earth is so warm.
So beautiful.
The sun is shining
and the children are playing.
Yet I am the flower
struggling to bloom.
While the world around is flourishing,
I am as weak and as fragile
as the damaged ground below me.
Lord, give me the strength
to blossom
this Spring.
The Rubin Museum of Art
Hey guys, I hope everyone’s semester is going well and no one is stressing too much! So last week I went to the Rubin Museum of art. All of your posts inspired me to go and I’m so happy I did! The Rubin Museum of Art primarily showcases art and ideas of the Himalayas, India, and surrounding regions. The museum itself was interesting along with being entertaining, and I can surely say that I enjoyed myself the entire time of being there, engaging in their many programs such as films, concerts, and on-stage conversations.
Because I attended the museum a week ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to see the Genesis Breyer P-Orridge exhibit. This exhibit recently opened, and is absolutely beautiful. I also really enjoyed the exhibition on Buddhist iconography and the multiples photos of India taken by Steven McCurry.
my monologue
She came from a faraway land
to conquer her dreams and make her parents proud
she thought all will be flowers and faeries
but alas her illusion was cruelly shattered
Her kingdom was cushioned and sheltered
but her new abode was made up of thin woods and cold breeze
her faraway land had no issues like racism or sexism
but her new abode breathes for issues like racism or sexism
she was fair in her land
here she is brown
she was treated like the princess she was in her land
but here she is being treated like the pauper she is not
My Monologue
Giovanna Amvrosiatos
She
Every morning
She wakes up
She looks in the mirror
and says everything will work out
the best is yet to come
you are important
you are strong
you can do this
she counts her blessings
walks out the door
off to class
in the pouring rain
all alone just like she enjoys most
she sits in class
to make herself proud
not for her family
not for anyone
just for herself
because no one else has been there
and no one will be there
so she proves to herself
she is worth it
she is not afraid of the world
she is not afraid of anyone
she goes home
does her chores
handles her responsibilities
and off to work
where she dances her stress away
where her heart beats in an eight-count
and her soul is filled with music
a weight lifted off her shoulder
just to return home
study
alone until day breaks
she knows her worth and knows she will succeed
so she continues
through this agonizing daily routine
to escape the feeling
of ever having to be dependent
this is her
identity
Writing Center!!!
Hi all,
I have been in the writing center for several times. Since I have heavy assignment on my English class, writing center becomes a good consulting center for me.
They really try their best to guide you understand your assignment and the readings. These tutors are really patient (most of them) and excellent. And because each of them have different personalities, so they have different opinion or views on the same piece. I gave my paper one assignment to three different tutors, they gave me different feedback. Chris focused on guiding me to better understand the assignment; Deepti gave me a lot of help on making my thesis sentence and organize my main ideas; and Rachel actually gave me a better understanding of how to make a cohesive and consistent essay. They don’t just do everything for you, they ask you critical questions and guide you to answer it based on your view.
I really appreciate Baruch have this kind of academic center to help student improve their writing skill.
And again, thank you Abil, thank you for your teaching. I hope you will get well very soon.
Warmly,
Chaoyan
My Monologue
Set the tea table with clean towel,
The tea leaves are not fresh.
It consumed by time,
Brewed by pure water,
Hold the cup and pull out the water,
By blending the leaves and water,
Scent remains,
Time freezes.
Pull the tea out,
Into the painted china tea cups,
Sip, and sip,
The spiritual of the tea,
Spread on your tongue.
Swallow it,
Haunts your heart, and stay.
Brew up the tea,
Hold my imaginary cup,
And then,
The dream end.
Back to my math homework.
Fashion Club
Last week, I participated in a fashion club event. Here the club officers introduced the club, its goals and the upcoming events. Some of their goals were to help students interested in the fashion industry look for jobs and to basically share the member’s interest in fashion. I really liked it, and felt that it offered a break from school responsibilities. The club itself, on that day, had a calm structured and wasn’t really organized as a formal event. This event was really a conversation about the club, what it would be hosting and what the participants thought about it. Since the club was in the beginning stages, only a few people came. I met two students who were upperclassmen that had an interest in going into the fashion industry. One is currently studying marketing and this club will help him. The others came because the club officers convinced them to join. In the future, the club will host a formal gala, an internship fair (featuring alumni who work in the fashion industry) and a fashion show. Before I left the club, I added myself to their mailing list, as did a few of the participants.
Monologue-Iliana Gomez
I am not good at writing a monologue. It’s hard to talk about myself in a deeper context. I would spend a long time thinking about what everyone else would think when they read this. Is it bad? Is it good? then I remember, I have other stuff to do. Do I ever just sit down and examine myself? Do I even feel comfortable in my own skin? I look to my left and I look to my right. What do you think of me? But the road is straight, not to the side. At the end of it, is something that I am working towards. I want to see myself rise from the ashes and be the person that I know I can be. I have spend a long time thinking of the pressures against me but, now I think of them as obstacles ahead of me that I have to overcome in order to mature. So, I will let go of any judgement, it’s not important. What’s important is my future. The future that I want to live in.
The Writing Center
A few days ago, I went to the writing center for help with my English assignment. It was my first time going there, and it was quite helpful. I was doing a paper about race, and I did very bad at my first draft. Then, my friend recommended me to go there.
When I met with my tutor, she read my paper and pointed out some common errors. Also, she helped me restructure my paper and gave me some ideas for my rewrite. It was a great experience. I think The Writing Center is one of the best places for you if you are not sure about the structure of your essay, grammar, and so on. In addition, if you want someone else to read your thoughts before turning in, all tutors are good choices. Finally, for nonnative speakers, it is pretty helpful to get a better grade on our next paper!!!
