Mohammad_Refat(Blog #3 Academic)

For my academic post I decided to go visit the Writing Center at Baruch. I went to go get help with my history paper, because I wasn’t too sure how my first draft went. The experience was very similar to my experience with STARR and their resume review. The big difference here was that I had a lot more time to get more feedback and criticism. To use the writing center you have to first set up an appointment on their website, then you have to go to the center on the 8th floor. When you get there you get to meet with whoever you set up an appointment with and you get an hour to go over something that you bring in. As I said earlier I brought in my history paper and asked for help with it, specifically if it was readable. The first thing I was told was that almost all my sentences had started with “he” because I was talking about what Lincoln had said during his first inaugural address. They helped me with making sure the start to my sentences weren’t repetitive and helped me to add good transitions to make the writing piece flow better. Then they helped me with a lot of the grammar and structure issues with the essay. This was really helpful for me because grammar is not my strong suit, and they helped with a lot of sentences that I had used comma splices. This was really good cause I learned a lot of grammar errors that I was making and I learned to fix them. I really do recommend that everyone tries to use this service, it’s extremely helpful, even if you think you’re the best writer in the world. Having a second, unbiased eye look at your work is always a boon.
