Am I the only one who becomes numb hearing to write an essay? Somehow from the very childhood, relation between me and writing has not improved that much. So, I am not writer kind from any chance. But life isn’t always something that you want it to be. As days passed, I had to face essays more and more. And after coming to college, there wasn’t a single day that I didn’t have to deal with it. Pretty much in every course there is something related to it (except math of course). So, I didn’t have that much of option. But life isn’t that bad. No matter how big it is, you always have solutions for your problems. I came to know that there is a section in our college called “Writing Center” which basically helps students with their writings or essays. I had two essays due the next day on COM 1010. To be honest, I was having difficulties with it (as always). So when I heard about this I waited no longer and rushed there. One of my friends told me that I don’t need to make an appointment. So, I didn’t bother. After going there I discovered that I made a mistake. They don’t have walk-ins. So, at first I had to go through the whole registration process to the writing center and then I had to make an appointment on the next available time. Their network was terrible. Waited for 30 minutes. Then a lady came and took me with her to her desk. Iris Cushing, a Columbia graduate who happens to be a poet. How nice is that! I showed her my essay drafts and she looked over it. Then she gave a brief about writing. Pointed out my mistakes and gave me an outline. She also told me how to improve my writing skill and ornament my essay beautifully. It helped me a lot. My fear and horrible relation lessened by her ideas and tips. I found out there are some really easy ways to do well in writing. It’s not rocket science after all. Visiting the writing center was a great and handful experience.
