I went to the Battle of Lex, a home basketball game against Brooklyn college, with a couple of people from class. I’m English and these things aren’t the same at home, we only see it in movies so I was looking forward to experiencing it for myself. We went along for both games and although we lost both, it didn’t matter. We had a great time anyway and part of that was due to how close the games were, we were winning both up until the last quarters I think. It was great to see all the support that Baruch gave to their team and it showed me that the school really does come together for these things. To me the best bit was the mascot and dinosaur race (of course). I follow someone with the same dinosaur costume on Instagram (ralph the rex, you should follow, it’s hilarious. They once went on American Ninja Warrior in the costume). So, anyway, I felt a bit star struck around this dinosaur even though it wasn’t THE dinosaur. And the race just topped it all off, I love that these are events are meant for fun as well as to come and support your team. It made me want to go to all of the other games. I also noticed that a lot of the support came from separate clubs, there was even a competition for who could cheer the loudest. As someone who is excited to join a lot of clubs it was great to see that these people really become your friends and are who you hang out with in your spare time as well. Team Baruch always call each other family and it was evident the other clubs felt the same way at the game, I’m excited to get more involved and meet my gang.
