I once thought that museums are mostly the same everywhere you go, offering the visitors a glimpse into the past culture. But, the museum I visited yesterday was an artifact  of the culture in  a more specific way ( even though, not all of it). In 4 months living in U.S, I had never visited a museum, so deciding where to go wasn’t easy at all. Anyway, picking the American Museum of Natural History, wasn’t a disappointment, in fact I totally enjoyed it. There were 4 exhibitions : 1.Dark Universe; 2.Butterflies; 3.!Cuba! and 4.Wonders of the Artic.

The Dark Universe was known as one of the most famous exhibitions of the Museum.  Not only because of its special effects that makes you feel as you’re laying in the middle of nowhere, even though  so close to a point in the Universe, but also because of it’s content in the video . It was mostly the unknown parts that amazed me the most, making me wonder for so much mysteries out there. The idea of an infinite universe has always been acknowledged, but yesterday for the first time, I really felt it.

One of the exhibitions I mostly liked was !CUBA!. It was a reflection of not only a past culture, but also a current one.  As I firstly walked through, what impressed me were some actual data written on the wall. For instance, the average monthly salary is 28 US Dollars, or that only 35% of the population has access to the internet. Staring in amazement, I still couldn’t believe that these data belong to our era. Almost at the end of this exhibition, there were tables and chairs, fancy( I guess), showing some of Cuba’s most traditional foods, activities, etc.  Malanga fritters is one of the most popular side dish. As I had no idea what Malanga is, I read that it resembles a potato, but is actually more closely related to taro root. But still, I have no idea what it is, I guess it’s just Malanga.

Visiting the American Museum of Natural History it was such a great experience, on of those that make you want to explore more. I still haven’t made a list of what museums I have to visit, but I can’t wait for the next one !
