I went to the FES meeting with Nabil so I had someone to go with. It was even easier than I thought to ease in because one of the speakers I met earlier and he also went to my high school. The free pizza before the presentation started was a big plus too. The two speakers talked for about an hour about what your role would be in different jobs in the broad spectrum of business. They went through a couples of examples of different levels of positions at banks or at different companies. They explained a lot of technical terms and a lot of the jargon used in the business world. A lot of the people in the room who were experienced with internships were also able to help fill in for the speakers, and that helped a lot too. Hearing from people who work in those fields is always good to get a good idea if that’s a field that I want to work in. Although to be honest a few of the explanations were really drawn out and I lost track of what was going on at some points, but I was still able to get a good idea of what was being talked about. This was helpful for me, even though it wasn’t totally related to my major, because I wasn’t totally sure what you do in different business job. Thankfully I was able to get a little more of a clearer picture and maybe I might decide to change my major if I find this interesting enough. However for now I don’t think I’d want to join the club because I wasn’t too enthusiastic about working in a lot of the positions they mentioned, which is okay anyway because applications are closed. The resources the club provides, like mentorship and resume reviews are helpful though which is something to keep in mind for the future.
