So I work by the museum of sex and every day I pass it and didn’t know what was inside. So after Awhile I thought it would be fun and funny for me I got there. So I took a Saturday off and went there. I actually thought It was great here! Interesting displays and exhibits, buried treasure was a hilarious watch and the videos concerning women and their portrayal in early porn videos was actually really interesting! The arcade was amazing! Yes you have to load a card but it’s a fun keepsake and totally worth it! I won hilarious prizes too! I also used the auto wed machine which was hilarious. The slide down to the bar was fun! Everyone seemed to be having a fun time .You also get to learn about a lot of things there. There were also some really fun things in the shop! I recommend this to everyone.
Weekly reflection #6
I just took a test I my Political science class and I hope I did well. I had hours and hours of studying but the concept is very hard. We had a review in the last class but I still had to study little more. The test contains 50 multiple choice questions. I answered 40 to the best of my ability. I guess on the last ten questions cause I didn’t know them. But that was a stressful week and took a lot of energy from me. I would recommend for people to study every night a week before then doing it a night before.
Weekly reflection #5
While in college I want to make the most of my time here and really get everything I possibly could out of this experience. I want to get involved in different types of organizations and meet as many people as I can. I do not want to waste time being lazy and sitting down all day; I would rather be active and go out making memories and experiences. I am interested in joining a sports teams and other activities.
Weekly Reflection #4
I can’t believe it is already October and midterm. I feel like it was yesterday the professor said “you’ve made it through your first week of college!” I am doing really well academically; none of my classes have given too much work and I am really proud of my grades. My hardest class is psychology just because we only have 2 grades (the exams), and that’s it. However I studied hard for the last one and did well so I am not too worried. College has been going well and is just getting better.
Weekly Reflection #3
Today marks the end of my third week in college. Wow. This week has been full of all types of emotions. It has been very overwhelming trying to find where all my classes are and trying to get to them on time. It was scary being the freshman because you are running around, looking lost, around all these older people who know where to go. It is very intimidating. However, you have to embrace it and go with it. It has been fun running into people on the way to class; I actually have never walked to a class without seeing at least one person I know. Adjusting to how college classes work is very different from high school; they work much faster and teachers don’t really take the time to explain things, like blackboard, to the freshman because they are so busy. One of my classes is 500 people, which is crazy!! I am so used to classes of 15 at my high school.
Enrichment Workshop #3
My third and last enrichment workshop was to go to a career event. To me this was this was the hardest workshop to do because I could not decide where to go. I was not sure what I wanted to do, but during my four hour gap I decided that I needed to use this time to do something productive. The closest place I could think about was the STARR career development center. I’m happy this was the first place I went to because I learned a lot more than I thought I would. I had very little knowledge of what to spect from STARR but once I got there all the staff where very friendly and it was quite interesting and informative engaging with them. We started by revising the different minors that would be a good fit for my intended major: International Business. It was extremelly helpful because when I did the three semester plan I put marketing as my intended minor, but really did not know much about it and did not give it much thought, but after talking to a staff member I think it is actually quite a nice minor to choose. I also talked about some diffenrent minors and how they would influnce my future career, now I am also leaning towards psychology. I also received some advise on how to use the Simplicity app, which is very helpful at finding a wide amount of jobs and internships in some very important companies, for example I was told that there was an internship soon at Goldman Sachs and that its application deadline was December first. This was just one among many other companies I could apply to. Finally I was told that if I needed help with anything regarding job interviews or internships I could always go to them or visit some of their workshops, which I will surely do.
I’m very excited about my future career and cant wait to learn more about minors I can take in the following years
.
Weekly Reflection
I missed a week of an FYS reflection and I don’t know which one it was, so I can’t necessarily “reflect” on it, but all the classes were really interesting. I’ve learned a lot and hope I fulfill this requirement and pass this class. From discussing the cultures we see around us and our own, to discussing what classes we should be taking next semester, this class was a great help as an incoming freshman.
Weekly Reflection Oct 29th
Today we had class in a lecture room where someone from the STARR center introduced the STARR center to us. She gave us an in-depth presentation on what the STARR center was about, how it would help us towards choosing career path. She informed us on how we have many resources to help us with resume writing, preparation for interviews, job opportunities etc. I never knew there were so many workshops available to help us.
Enrichment #3
Today I went to the undergraduate career day Starr center to talk about my future career. Im majoring in Business and minoring in psychology, I hope that I can use both in my future career because they work very well together. I was glad I finally made the choice to go in there because there are a lot of helpful resources, specially I never knew that you could just go in there and ask for some dress clothes for an interview so that was neat to find out. There were a lot of tables around and it was kinda busy when I first walked in there but I made my way around the room towards the business centered tables and got talking with this guy named Jim. He was pretty helpful with all the questions I had and made me feel more confident going forward in my career path.
Weekly Reflection- Last class
Today we had our last freshman seminar class. It went by really really quick honestly. I’m only glad it’s over because now I only have one class on Tuesday and then I can go home back to sleep. Overall, the class was helpful in making that transition a bit easier. We left with information that will serve us throughout the rest of the years. Both Gabbie and Bernice were super understanding and generous with assignments and due dates throughout the course, which benefited me because I am a huge procrastinator. Besides the downside of getting no credits for this class, it is a class i will miss
