Rhetoric advertising
During world war II American women entered the work force. The image of Rosie the Riveter was used as part of a propaganda campaign by the US Government that was aimed to persuade women into the work force. The image became a cultural symbol; it represents feminism, economic power, and independence from men.
In the image used here by Clorox Rosie the Riveter is used to advertise the cleaning products. This advertisement can be viewed as offensive, or it can be viewed as motivating towards women. I personally think it’s offensive. It implies that cleaning is a duty for STRONG women. They use bold letters as well as colors, and the wording “ GET THE POWER” to grab the reader’s attention using a persuasive appeal. The advertisement takes a classic role and molds it to fit their advertising purpose.
