Distorting the Civil War

Eric Foner’s book review focused on why the civil war began and how it would be remembered. The book sparks interest due to the conflicts of how history should be remembered and what really happened. Reconciliationist side speaks of remenbering the war for its glory and individual heroes. This was a really southern take upon the war. Emancipationist side of the story argues that slavery was the focal reason for the civil war. It sounded like Foner was pleased with book since it was very concise about the conflicting sides trying to write history. The way we remember history is essential to our future generations. It becomes extremely beneficial to know why events occurred so mistakes dont repeat themselves.
