
The French gave the statue to the United States as a gift to celebrate a long friendship between the countries. It used to stand as a welcoming mat in the New York harbor to all immigrants that under went the journey to America. Today it stands as direct image relating to the United States and towards freedom.
Federic A. Bartholdi designed the Statue of Liberty during a trip to America. He envisioned a lady holding a torch and took the processes required in order to turn his imagination into reality. France provided the statue while the United States provided the pedestal. Once unveiled, it would eventually become a symbol of liberty as we know it today.
