I watched the streaming performance of “La Gringa.”  Reading and watching the “la Gringa” changed my expiation of how I imagined. When I read the play “La Gringa,” I had different visions of each scene, such as the setting, characters, acting, etc. There were some things that I didn’t expect from the streaming. In my opinion, I thought the live stream needed a little more because since it was recorded, it was not the same as having to watch it live, but there were some parts I liked from the play. 

Reading the play and watching the steaming of “la Gringa” made me better understand it, as did hearing the characters’ voices and seeing a small setting of Maria’s family home. I never thought of Manolo being in a wheelchair; while reading the play, I have always imagined tío Manolo staying in bed since he was sick.The play’s background; I imagine the play to have more props than just a white plane curtain, a coffee mug, and the yuca. The first thing I noticed while reading and watching the streaming of the play was when Maria entered and started peaking and pronouncing the Spanish words wrong. Still, later, throughout the play, it seemed Maria spoke Spanish fluently, and I wasn’t accepting that. Compared to the reading of the play, I imagined Maria trying to speak Spanish in a “broken way” while I was reading. In the scene for tío Manolo, I guess a room with a poster of a play he volunteered for or played before while reading the play. Still, when I watched, the streaming was expecting to see Manolo’s poster, and Maria Pointed them out, but instead, in that scene, they made Maria point them out to the audience. Another scene I imagined was when Maria went to help Monchi at the farm. While reading the play, I imagined trees and lovely blue skies with mounts, bird sounds, a big stack of Yuca, and another thing they had picked from the farm. Compared to the streaming, I expected to see at least a green background with some bird or nature sounds. Lastly, another thing I have also wanted to hear in “La Gringa” is having to hear Victor’s truck when he tries to fix but it still doesn’t work. 

Some of my favorite parts of the scene while watching the streaming was when Maria and her cousin Iris went to San Juan, and Maria “took” pictures of all the places in Puerto Rico and liked How they had different types of images of Juan. Another part of the streaming was at the end when tío Manolo passed away, and Maria was calling him and looking up in the background. I like how they show her spirit, knowing he is still there. Watching this scene from the play, I would never imagine that while reading the actual play. 

Having to watch “la Gringa” streaming made me understand the play much better even thought there were some things that I wasn’t expecting to see.
