Personal post:
Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. This month Muslims fast and donate some portions of their assets. I am sharing this aspect to the weekly blog because I have joined a Facebook group named “Ramadan at Islamic Center at NYU.” Through this Facebook page, I have become very active during this holy month. For praying and breaking my fast, this entire month I am going to the ICNYU located near Washington Square Park. Free food is provided to all members. A large number of members contribute financially or provide free volunteer services to the mosque for the whole month. There are many students, nearby residents, and workers all come to this place for food after the fast. This place becomes very crowded during this month. I brought this topic because New York University is a private research university and ICNYU is a religious organization and it is considered a charity. It is a real life example for me, how religious organization operates in the city and becomes a cultural and educational hub for its constituents. They also raise money from various special events and collect money for East Africa and Yemen with Islamic Relief .During Ramadan, Muslims have to donate some of their money to the poor according to their incomes and assets. The ICNYU collects those money and distributes it to the poor. So here, money is flowing from rich to poor and it brings happiness to the community and the world.
