The above link is about a breast cancer non-profit in Arizona shutting its doors due to lack of funding. This organization has been the largest private grantor of breast-cancer funds in Arizona, the article reports. I thought this story somehow was linked to this week topic about the importance of stakeholders in the non-profit sector. This organization that has existed since 1993 is now closing due to lacking of funding. This makes one ponder about their approach to stakeholders, could it be that they have focused too much on the vertical stakeholders and not having seek enough feedback from horizontal stakeholders. What could have gone wrong aside from just funding issue?  A lady pointed in the article “We’re competing for the same donors, sponsors, volunteers and participants,” Mencuccini said. “It’s a very competitive marketplace, especially here in Arizona where we have more than one season of 5K events.” She has highlighted there different stakeholders. This goes to show how are powerful they are really at either keeping an organization open or causing an organization to close.
