Session Three Reflections

The board members are fiduciaries “who steer the organizations towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission” (www.councilfornonprofits.org).  Nonprofits are responsible for the governance of the organization and have legal duties. The board is responsible for creating a strategic plan for the organization that focuses on the mission statement, for the organization’s financial health, for supporting and evaluating the executive director, monitoring programs, and ensuring legal and ethical integrity. Boards are crucial to the health of a nonprofit organization and ensure that the nonprofit has the proper oversight and management as well as stays on its path and achieves its mission, vision and goals. An effective board creates good governance and ensures the best success for the organization.
