This article discusses the risk of becoming a board member, specifically some of the things board members can be held responsible for including failure to detect misconduct, misusing funds, self-dealing etc. Brown discusses rules for proper conduct including following proper corporate formalities, understanding the role in the nonprofit, not accepting money as board member, and importance of attending the board members. I found this resource interesting since we spent a lot of this session discussing board members’ responsibilities in a positive way, however there are ways where the board members can make mistakes so its important to know how to avoid it.
