This week’s reading included a lot of discussion regarding personality types and what makes a great leader. Is a strong, aggressive, commanding leader better – or is a soft, kind, and nurturing one more effective?
While I don’t think that anyone can truly agree on what makes the best leader, there are qualities that I think everyone can agree on, such as the ability to accept criticism, shift gears, lead by example, and be a great listener.
Throughout my career, I’ve encountered a lot of different personality types and management team styles.
One thing that has helped me A LOT was to better understand different personality types and to not take someone’s actions so personally. If my manager or board member is the type to get very emotionally-charged and start yelling, it’s helped me to understand that it’s not necessarily against me personally, it’s just how they naturally handle situations.
Here’s a fun website to help you better understand different personality types: https://www.16personalities.com/personality-types
I’m personally a “Mediator” (INFP) 🙂
The website states:
“As managers, INFPs are among the least likely to seem like managers – their egalitarian attitudes lend respect to every subordinate, preferring communication as human beings than as a boss/employee opposition.”
Sounds just like me! Would love to know my other classmate’s personality types and how they think that translates to their leadership/management styles.
