Did Zuckerberg Waste $100 Million on Newark’s Schools?
I chose this article to highlight because it directly ties into the conversation about government vs. nonprofit services and the debate over who sets the agenda for social services. It relays how Zuck’s effort mostly turned into a PR event that was very top-down, ignoring core voices (such as Latinos). This touches on Lumley’s point that community feedback and bottom-up strategizing is essential to creating effective services and an effective nonprofit sector. I feel it’s an interesting case study to keep in mind when deciding what role nonprofits and reformers should play in areas that are core government services like public education.
