This hummus will drive you absolutely nuts! Above is a photograph taken by me at Hummus Ben Sira in Jerusalem Israel. Take a close look at that seductive bowl and try to identify what’s in it. Not quite sure? Wel help you out. There is of course the essential foundation of creamed chickpeas. The orange looking oil ring around the bowl is a mix of olive oil and hot sauce. On top of that is the brown mush that is actually a delicious blend of beans. Then the green spread of fresh and tasty cilantro. Last but certainly not least, the trail of nuts that serve as the cherry on top of a scoop of ice cream. You have probably all heard of the pineapple on pizza debate. How about the nuts on hummus debate? Choose your battles wisely when you are in Israel because people hold strong positions on the contentious phenomenon!
The location that serves this hummus is called Hummus Ben Sira which is located on the Ben Yehuda Marketplace, a very popular spot for shopping and late night bar scenes in Jerusalem. College students, young IDF soldiers, and gap-year program students usually populate this hummus joint. The wait staff is friendly and the service is super fast.
