Collapsible Helmet Assumptions

Assumption 1: Customers will value a helmet that takes up less space but is also multifunctional.

This assumption is critical as I imagine producing this item will be costly, and I’d like to verify this assumption before further investing time and money. To me, the creator of the concept that is closely observing an individual with the problem, the idea seems like a great solution to the problem but do others with this problem see it as a valuable solution? If user significantly do not see value in a helmet that also serves as a bag, the concept may fail and I would pivot my idea towards a different direction, potentially, an alternate way to store or carry the helmet. This assumption will be easy to test through surveys or focus groups with those who use bike/scooter users who either own their own or participate in shared services.

Assumption 2: A collapsible helmet that turns into a bag can still effectively serve it’s purpose of protecting the user.

This assumption is more difficult to test as it required that I develop a physical prototype with safety in mind. A thinkercad design sounds like a piece of cake in comparison to a physical product that requires padding, materials, research into helmet designs and protection. This assumption requires time to verify but if it cannot be proven true, my solution fails. The most important purpose of my concept is still to protect the user. If it isn’t feasible to do so, my idea will fail so it is important I test this assumption, although it is time consuming and requires resources.

  1. Hey Sunrise, I think your second assumption is very important. Your design is really cool, so I think the hard part is ensuring that it is safe and can protect people in case of an accident. That would require more testing, and I assume it would have to adhere to certain regulations or something? Definitely worth looking into though!

  2. These are good assumptions Sunrise, I agree that it would be difficult to test as you need to create a physical prototype. You can perhaps base off already existing helmets and think about how you can implement something to the design already in place to make it into a bag. It’s also good to consider that the customer might want to use these two products simultaneously which would take away from its purpose.
