Questions:
What do you think of the upcoming elections? Who do you think should/will win?
What do you think of our system of government?
What do you believe our generation has to make a difference?
“I think the elections right now are definitely kinda complicated because of the pandemic but I do know that even though I can’t vote yet, a lot of new 18 year olds are now voting so that will definitely change things. I’m not sure who will win since last time it was pretty shocking so I’m not sure what to expect. But I would want Biden to win for sake of the all the people that are being negatively effected by his decision making”
“I think our system of government could be better. There are a lot of flaws and injustices that have to be fixed maybe even things we don’t know about”
“I believe our generation is really different than others and as we grow older we will be in some positions of power and start changing things for the better”
Lohori Chakrborty 18
“I think these upcoming elections are extremely important, it’s important that you vote too so we can get the cheeto out asap because we won’t last any longer”
“Our system of government is literally founded upon white supremacy and racism. We live in a systemic racism that lowers your chances the moment you a born a person of color. It is not only unfair but ridiculous that we still have to deal with this in 2020. And people like Trump, not just him but people in congress, support these ideals and keep us in this form in order to remain in power.”
“Our generation is definitely gonna try our hardest to get rid of this and make steps towards it. We might not be able to accomplish everything but most of us are pretty educated and we together have subconsciously come together to start this revolution, now somewhat figurative but soon very literal. We are tired of all of this so we are going to put it to an end”
Christy Lin 18
“These upcoming elections are vital so that the U.S doesn’t completely fall apart. Our generation has started to become more politically active though so I’m sure we will get the results that we need. Trump has done more damage than any good a person could try saying he did. I don’t like Biden either but it’s the only way we will get a chance to repair and then elect Bernie or AOC after him”
“Our system is corrupt, everyone knows that, and if you deny it, you are just a part of it too. Centuries of oppression has made it impossible for people of color to advance, a lot of us aren’t even treated as human beings. From the racism in the medical field to the segregated funding of school, redlining and our whitewashed education system.”
“I feel like our generation has what it takes to change this because we are definitely tired of it and we are just different than the past generations. We are radical, very organized and we always try to research and be educated on issues.”
I felt Lohori’s perspectives resonated with my own feelings about this election because I do agree our system of government is “literally founded upon white supremacy and racism”. Leaders like Donald Trump don’t support people of color. It is important that all lives matter, be heard, and given the same opportunities.
I resonated with Christy when she says, “Our generation has started to become more politically active…” We have to know what’s going on in the world, because Gen Z is who is being most effected by issues like discrimination, racism, etc, since we are so diverse.
I agree with Lohori’s statement saying that our system of government is founded on white supremacy and racism. People of color automatically have it harder to make it in life with this system. Since Trump supports this system, it is best to get him out of office.
I agree with the last response from Christy. Gen Z has been able to lead the charge on many different issues in America. Now being able to vote, we’re definitely going to see the effect Gen Z has on the election.
