Assignment for Week of April 20th
Political Cartoon:
This is a political cartoon that reveals many things about what happens when we stay in our homes. As the cartoon shows, we start to develop a variety of new habits. The habit that this cartoon shows is stress eating. Because most of us are always at home, we start to get bored, and because of it, our mind makes us feel like we are hungry but in reality, we just want to be doing something. In this case, we start eating many times in the day. We go to the refrigerator and take and look at the things there are. Something we go and just take a look. Other times we go and take something to eat.
This is not the only habit we create. There are many other bad habits we create that are not in the political cartoon. Another habit that we create is about our sleeping schedule. Because we are bored during the day. We might fall asleep. This causes not wanting to sleep during the night. And what follows this is going to sleep very late, and waking up later in the day. This cycle that we create, ruins our sleeping schedule.
We should be aware of these habits that we create. In the political cartoon, we can see that the woman uses a face mask in her house to remember herself that she has the habit of stress eating. Being aware that we have the habit, make us realize that we are under something we need to find ways to stop. The mask remember her that he do not have be going to the refrigerator and be eating all the time. The same thing with sleeping. We should be aware that if we are ruining our sleeping schedule, we must find ways to remember ourselves that we have to sleep and fix this sleeping schedule.

Assignment for Week of April 20th- Political Cartoons
I think that all the cartoons were amazing. But I chose this specific cartoon because it has ignorance all over it. This actually happening in some parts of the country, where people mostly trump’s supporters are protesting in favor of reopening cities and businesses. They want all restrictions to be lifted and be able to not only endanger themselves, but others. They believe that the pandemic is a hoax. It just shows how ignorant and not smart these people are, but no wonder who their leader is. What’s funny about this cartoon is the virus figure also holding signs of support indicating that what they are doing is silly since the point is to protect ourselves from the virus, which is outside. I think that it depends because a cartoon can persuade you more into the cartoonist’s views on what they are trying to express. But they are funny and keep you in touch with political issue that go on.

Assignment for the week of April 13
The podcast I listen to is called “Social Distance” by The Atlantic. It was about a female getting precise information from a professional on how summer is going to be like. The professional had his information because he is connected to people in the medical field, so this establishes his credibility. The people’s views that are being expressed are both the one asking questions and the one answering them. I didn’t get the name of them the one asking the question is just concerned people and their safety for the future. The one answering the question is just giving ideas on how the summer is ideally going to occur. The thing that interests me is the idea of not having to stay home over the summer. Katherine said her birthday was around the final weeks of July, and she asked Ed questions in regards to her celebrating her birthday. I got to admit something I learned may not be new to others but new to me. Ed said that the mask is used to not protect yourself but from stop spreading the disease to other people. Furthermore, he said that even if you have no symptoms, you can still give the virus to others. This all means that people have to get the right mindset when they go outside, we need to use the masks not just for our safety but for everyone. This podcast does influence me in the aspect of not going outside until we are allowed. Ed did say that we can enjoy our summer but under certain circumstances that include social distancing and recommends small gatherings. It gave me hope that we have the possibility to have a nice summer and not be home all day. I would recommend this podcast to my classmates because it’s a very brief conversation that can explain some of our concerns. I’m assuming that we all want to have a good experience this summer, and the podcast is giving us insight on how we might spend it. Some reactions I have is that I think the idea of going to the beach isn’t going to happen. Ed said we might be able to go the beach but be 6 feet away from each other, but I believe it’s better to not go. I saw that all NYC pools and beaches are being closed so I doubt people would go there. I don’t listen to podcasts unless it assigned to me. It’s not that I hate it but I rather do other things but in regards to getting the information, I feel like watching television news is better.

Cuomo Responds to Trump’s criticisms
ABC News Podcast
The president tweeted that the New York governor “should spend more time doing and less time complaining.”
Trump brought the Army Corps of Engineers to build the 2500 additional bed for coronavirus patients in Javits Center. Trump has stated that “none of them have been used” when in reality 800 beds has been used so far. Trump also said that there was no need in making these beds and that it was a request form the state which was not valid. However, Governor Cuomo states well if it wasn’t valid then the federal government would not have helped in making the beds. The reason why they made extra beds is because there was a projection stating that there was going to be a higher amount of people affected by the virus but it was wrong which these projections came from the PRESIDENT himself. So for Trump saying that Cuomo is wrong when the only thing he did was evaluating Trump’s projection shows how Cuomo was foolish to believe in Trump’s projection. Meaning that the White House is unreliable and anyone who follows them are foolish. Trump has stated that he does not want to help on testing 11 times which is something that every state needs help on. He doesn’t want to help because he says that it is too complicated and hard to do which is his job to do as president. Stating that he has done enough to help but Cuomo says that no one has done enough because it is not over. There is still a lot to do in order to stop the virus so Trump can’t just want a thank you from everyone he has helped and think that he is finished and that he has done his part. Cuomo continues on saying what if every governor were to simply say that they are finished and that they did their part then the world would be in chaos. Cuomo criticized the lack of knowledge that Trump has on the constitution because he has said before that he is deciding when to open states and then changes his story saying that it is up to the governors to decide that. The truth to the story is that it was always up to the governors to decide when to open again and not Trump. Another thing that came up is that CDC projection (Trump’s Projection) stated that 2.4 million people would have been affected by the coronavirus. Which was almost 2 times the capacity of hospitals which are 900,000 in the US. Trump saying we are prepared and that they have a stock pile of ventilators which are 10,000 is foolish. If those projections were right and that it was twice the capacity that hospitals hold then nation would be in chaos. Only having 10,000 ventilators for the nation for 2.4 million that were supposed to be infected. Only caring more about businesses and not about funding for testing and finding a way to end the virus.

Assignment for Week of April 13th – Podcasts/Radio
The podcast interviewed and showed how corona virus spread and what officials did right and wrong during this pandemic. It talked about the first responders and how people were tested, and the fact that it was limited not everyone could be tested. February 26 was the turning point when people who did not even travel outside started showing up and health profession were not even trained to take care of these case. It was interesting how many nurses did not even know handle it or if they themselves have it. This pandemic showed the true heroes and how important the medical jobs are in our society. Thousands of doctor and nurses are putting their lives on risk and their family during these times. It not our political leaders and billionaire dollar company on the front time. They also talk about false test that CDC were providing because there were so many demands with not enough time. I don’t blame them in some perspective, like there is only so much they can do. It seems once again there was not enough communications and right leadership to led everyone at time like this. This podcast was super interesting because dived into how an outbreak pressed and everything that went on when this chaos started. The first two minutes on the podcast they talk about actors who were practicing new broadcast if a pandemic took place. I didn’t not know that they even had that and when there was discussion of being prepare how did it all became this bad. The views that were expressed with health professors who were heavily involved when it all started. It talks about health care system being underfunded and it was expressed by health care director. The Director of CDC discuss how they are not able to provide more because they are not funded yet still put under high pressure. I think it true, there is not bias because it for decade this talk to fix America health care system has been an issue to fix. It so crazy that White house ignored so many medical advises like that must be so frustrating for Health care workers who are fighting to help the people. It makes me madder at the fact that our government can pick other nations flaws when they literally did the same thing. It just makes me angry to think that we could have saved so many people live in advance if only people have taken it seriously. It also dived into equality in healthcare and how wealthier people are treated at time like this rather the rest of us. This podcast shows how healthcare tried to take care of these situations and how hard it is. This pandemic shows that we all need to be on same page and ideas to resolves things and it clearly not happening in our nations.
I love listening to podcast because it more interesting and it like listening to a conversation. Sometime reading newspaper we don’t pulling get everything. But like podcast goes in depth and shows the whole picture. I would recommend to my friends because it important to learn about the world around us and be more aware. Sometimes it better to get more information’s with full details rather like an Instagram post.
Munsura – Something about the way you have embedded the podcast here has made it impossible for me to use the comment feature to respond to your post. This sounds like a very informative podcast. I agree with you that podcasts can sometimes be a better, more accessible and reliable way to get information and analysis than television – and they are definitely better than relying on social media for news!

What Will the Summer Be Like? – with “Staff writer Ed Yong braces Jim and Katherine for a very different summer than most of us are used to.”
They (podcasters) are being told by the researcher of the team that oversees the future of the coronavirus pandemic would be a lingering problem until the summer has come and maybe even further than that. During the summer if the pandemic starts to decrease, small businesses and restaurants with fewer customers can reopen but can be problematic but they will implement stricter hand washing policy. We should keep in mind the health care workers and their needs before our own if we do anything resulting in us being outside, for example, we should be wary of the supplies that are available for the general public after health care workers (like the N95 masks). They are also saying that we don’t know what the patterns of coronavirus would be around the world when other countries might get their next or last peak, the level of danger and the patterns of peaks around the world are unsystematic. They discuss the idea of wearing a mask to be looked at as a communal good as everybody should wear them and keep them on at all times rather than looking at protecting one’s self from other people and sometimes not wearing them at all. Because when summer rolls in people might not want to be protected and stop wearing masks which can only cause more trouble if the level of a pandemic is at higher risk. We see that some people want to have a good time in the upcoming nice weather of summer, they want to enjoy themselves under the sun and be outside. But as the government makes us keep in mind that this is very random and we should stay safe. The podcasters want to know if it is going to be safe enough for the general public to start going outside and live their normal lives if the pandemic waves slow down. One thing that was interesting was when a lady podcaster asked the researcher that has been doing research about the future of coronavirus her dream birthday which was around late June and will she be able to do the things she wanted to do during that time after/during coronavirus slowing down. This was interesting because she gives an example of what she wants to do and the researcher is replying to her actions that she would take during her birthday in summer to minimize the risk of getting infected, whether it would be dangerous or normal like before the pandemic. I have learned that the virus can be spread by you to someone else without you being symptomatic and feeling totally fine while wearing a mask. To minimize the risk of infecting others and yourself in the future, you should take immunity check to see the level of antibodies that are currently in your system and how your body (immune system) is responding to that level of threat, by the time of the immunity exam you might be immune to it and stay safe. This podcast influenced me in way that even the nicer days are on its way, we should not forget where we are at as we are in a global pandemic to the coronavirus and by the level of patterns each country are having, it is very random and we should take precautions to stay safe and protect our community. I would recommend this to my classmates as it is very easy to understand and it just gives a nice conversation about staying safe knowing that the good times of summer are on their way. Summer might be intriguing for all of us to go outside and enjoy ourselves, we should stay safe and take precautions as this global pandemic is very random and can be easily contracted within people. This is so much better than reading it in a newspaper because we have people conversing and coming up with ways that we can deal with it, and give you an idea of where the future might look like with science and community involvement. This summer may not be the same as we had but with the things that are going on, we should not risk getting sick and have this going for longer than it has to.

Info for Research Papers: In-Text Citations and Works Cited Lists
As you assemble preliminary bibliographies for your Analytical Research Papers, it’s not too early to begin thinking about how to format your bibliography properly and how to include citations in the body of your paper when you quote from a source or when you include an idea that you found in one of your sources.
For this paper, we will be following the guidelines of the MLA (Modern Language Association) 8th Edition.
For a description of how to format bibliographic entries using the MLA guidelines, see the Purdue OWL’s online guide:
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_sample_works_cited_page.html
For this paper, you will be including a Works Cited page, not a regular bibliography. This means that, rather than a big list of all the potential sources you looked at, your page will only include the sources you actually used in writing your paper. This page comes at the end of your essay and should say Works Cited at the top of the page.
You are welcome to use a citation generator (like EasyBib) in putting together your bibliography. Just make sure to select MLA 8th Edition. If you have questions about how to format a particular entry, feel free to reach out to me or consult one of the many resources online.

Assignment for week of April 13th: Covid19 podcast
What Will the Summer Be like?
Social Distance- The Atlantic, Episode 29
This podcast is about how our upcoming summer will look like “after” the corona virus pandemic has slowed down. Ed Yong, a writer staff for the podcast, explains and answers the questions from the hosts about Covid19 and summer. His theories are there is a possibility to reopen for summer but it won’t be “normal” and there will be restrictions to the things we are most likely to be looking forward to enjoy. How can we contain the virus while trying to get to out to the world. Katherine, one of the hosts, seems excited and looking forward to summer as her birthday in July. She asks very specific questions which explicitly shows her hopes as the rest of the world. Jim, the other hosts, doesn’t talk as much but at the beginning of the podcast he mentions how he felt like a dog waiting to go on a walk. Ed Yong, guest and staff writer who have been studying infectious diseases for a while, has theories about how the summer will look like with Coronavirus. He has doubts about the summer. Even if outside world is reopened, there will be a lot of restrictions in place that we are totally forgetting about. He does believe that things won’t be back to normal but instead more enjoyable.
It was interesting what Jim said at the beginning of the podcast. I absolutely found interesting Ed Yong’s theories because so far he has been one of the realistic person when talking about the pandemic and summer. He responded each question honestly and clear which made sense to me and I understood what he said. A lot of people are looking forward to summer with the idea that it’s going to be like any other summer as before but being realistic it’s not. Something I sorted learned from this podcast was that we don’t appreciate little things such a walk. We always wait for something to happen or to be take away in order to see its value. Also, how one thing affect us all. I did know this before but never saw it coming from many other people around the world. Also, how much lack of common sense Trump and his government have as they stopped the funding of the WHO during this TIME.
The podcasts didn’t influence my views on the subject because I been very realistic about it but I did find that I shared the same views with other people. It’s not going back to normal and this summer not matter how fun we try to make it, it is going to be the same. The “normal” everyone seems to be talking about is what got us where we are now. People will appreciate everything more and enjoy more hopefully but there will be restrictions in place during summer and also fear. As Ed mentioned a lot of places we used to go and enjoy won’t be opening for the rest of the year, some even had to closed down permanently. I would absolutely recommend this podcast to my classmates because we need to be more realistic about the pandemic and be cautious. I know most of us are looking forward to have a good summer after being at home for months. I did like this podcast because it had an energetic atmosphere and it was interesting to listen to. It touched many topics and also didn’t have as much negativity about the topic as the news and the media.

Assignment for week of april 13th
*Coronavirus: Fact vs. Fiction, CNN
This podcast is called Coronavirus: Fact vs. Fiction, CNN hosted by CNN chief medical correspondent DR. Sanjay Gupta. This podcast consists of multiple ways to explain the coronavirus. Starting with How to Help, most people do not realize there are multiple ways to help people that are infected. Not only people that are healthy but also the ones that are being recovered can donate blood for experiments. The next section is dating at a distance during a pandemic. Dating throughout a pandemic is hard but it also increases people’s willingness and efforts to get a person. However, there are people that find ways to keep a long distance relationship without a pandemic. Also, it might turn in a positive way. There are more topics being covered in this podcast such as how doctors decide who is going to get the treatment first. It is not just because doctors do not want to assist but because ventilators and supplies are low. Not only people that are going outside but also the prisons are going through a crisis because they are also infected. The people that are offering their views are Medicals directors and professors in medical schools. Not only professionals but also Ti kTokers have been offering their opinions on the topic and how it is also affecting them but they are trying to keep positive. What interested me about this podcast is the way they not only use professional terms but also things that people can relate to. For example, in the first section a girl describes how she just delivers food to the elderly and that is her way of helping. Sometimes people do not know that simple things matter and we can help. What I learned from this podcast is that I thought people did not like to wear masks because it was uncomfortable but actually doctors said before that if you were not sick it was not mandatory to wear it. However, now the president orders people to wear masks everywhere you go. Also, it is important to understand that we use masks to protect others from us. I recommend this podcast to my classmates because it reveals tips on how to behave during this pandemic and also that it is important to behave as if we are ill because this will help us keep cautious. I prefer listening to the podcast more than reading a newspaper. I feel that listening to a podcast is more interesting, in a way that I can continue doing more things while listening. Last but not least, television news is more just like a monotony and they keep repeating everything fast and I feel that I do not catch the point.
